Nice article on the growth of #Mastodon via @TechCrunch. Mastodon is no longer in the “other” category of social media, and it’s growing larger every month, thanks to the wonderful community!

Do we even know where the hostages are, being held? if there are 150 hostages all in different locations, the chances are there is an order to kill all should any attempt be made to rescue them.
Assuming they have not already been killed.

+1 to the latter
The EU has issued a warning to Elon Musk over the disinformation about the Hamas attack on Israel, including fake news and “repurposed old images”, on X, formerly known as Twitter.
The letter arrives less than two months after sweeping new laws regulating content on social media came into force under the EU Digital Services Act.
If X doesn't comply it can face a fine of 6% of its global revenues or a total blackout in the EU.

EU warns Elon Musk over ‘disinformation’ on X about Hamas attack - https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2023/oct/10/eu-warns-elon-musk-over-disinformation-about-hamas-attack-on-x and so it begins... "We have, from qualified sources, reports about potentially illegal content circulating on your service despite flags from relevant authorities.”
If Linda Yaccarino is the new Twitter CEO perhaps said letter should be sent to her, and she can face the music for not acting.
The EU has issued an urgent warning to Elon Musk, giving him 24 hours to respond.

I have a USB stick with a rescue distro on somewhere, so you reminded me to check and make sure it is updated.
@zleap yes, be careful. If you run into problems with Windows overwriting your boot record, I recommend having a USB key hand with this on it close to hand: https://sourceforge.net/projects/boot-repair-cd/files/latest/download (used it a few days ago to quickly resurrect a friend's highschooler son's dual boot laptop - Linux Mint used almost exclusively, Windows largely ignored)
Hamas posted a video to facebook showing them murdering a family member and posted that video to another family members feed.
Very traumatic
If OFCOM et al in the UK don't take action it will send the wrong message about the online safety bill, what it tells people is do what you want, as OFCOM can't be bothered to act.
Yes but all these groups seem to be supporting each other, the reason the US moved their carrier fleet in to the region is to stop Hezbollah or that is what the BBC are saying at least.
If is real move in, then so with the allies of of Hamas.
As soon as my windows was set up on a new system, i installed LinuxMint dual boot and not looked back, so I am with you kinda scared to boot in to windows.
I think you can turn off ads as part of the set up process, once I bypassed the sign up to MS garbage, I wasn't really in the mood for any more of their nonsense.
I am more worried that windows will detect dual boot and somehow try and fix the boot sector and break dual booting,
I really don't understand how people tolerate #Windows. I booted back into my Windows 11 install tonight, and it was a total shit show.
AMD graphics driver needed to update, but it couldn't because there was a Windows update pending. When that finally finished and I rebooted, the graphics driver update took a solid 15 minutes (I have gigabit internet...)
And then the ads: "Try Xbox Game Pass!" "Turn on your OneDrive backup!"
Meanwhile, the system is running SO SLOW compared to Kubuntu.
It should also be a test of the online safety bill, which agree with that or not is meant to put onus on tech companies to remove harmful content.
If people are posting this information it could lead to attacks on people, so that could be seen as harmful content.

“It's now almost impossible to tell what's a fact, what's a rumor, what's a conspiracy theory, and what's trolling"
@Blueteamsherpa @malwaretech @zleap that presumes Gaza and West Bank are natural boundaries of Palestine, though only a small portion of what it was before Israel's creation.
There is also a massive gap between Israel "defending itself" and dispossessing people by directly replacing them in their houses with colonists and ripping up crop and water infrastructure for settlements they haven't taken yet. I can see no way that Hamas dissipates while those actions continue.
