I think the solution will come from a variety of different ideas, but the agreement is the current idea is simply not working.

@amerika @thor

I see your point esp when diversity gets hijacked by one particular group who then try and push that agenda on everyone else, and attack anyone who disagrees.

This is hardly equality or diversity when they do that.

We all need to learn to just get along regardless of who we are or what our gender or background is.

@newt I did a course on Autism recently and this sort of thing came up, statements such as this are taken literally by people with autism.

In England (at least) we have a saying - "raining cats and dogs", this was used as an example,.

It means heavy rain, to a person who is autistic, they have a vision of falling cats and dogs (like rain falls)

it shows we need to think about how we use language.

@amerika @thor

It has been said many times we are losing the war on drugs.

If you legalise supply you control not only the supply but the purity and strength, that way you know what you are getting.

10mg of paracetamol from a pharmacy should be just that for example but in this case applied to I guess Heroin and cocaine among others.

Then you work on reducing the dependency, a t the same time as that try and deal with the mental health or other issues that have caused the addiction

Of course this also means that these substances can be tax, so lets tax them and put 100 percent of that in to providing free detox, mental health and other support.

As with other problems, it is fixable if we are prepared to be tough enough to have these hard discussions and make hard decisions as to how to solve the issues involved.

@markusl @njoseph
Well the fact they keep trying to circumvent laws designed for priivacy. data protection is evidenceof this.

Convincing the masses is much harder.

Lets focus on building a much better replacement in the fediverse, But at the same time use these news stories to encourage people to join here.

@BobbyGears This is just wrong, I am pro vaccine, unless there is a medical reason for not having one, I also respect personal choice,.

People on either side of this debate don't have the right to ram their opinion in to others.

Doing what they are doing here just seems an excuse for bullying what if you are not vaccinated due to a medical condition. This sort of situation should be a Private not public matter.

Telling the class, this info will most likely eventually end up on social media,

We need to start showing each other more respect.

I'm starting a #FediverseWiki for #Fediverse noobs.

What domain should I use?

#poll #wiki

@liaizon I did something a while back to download all of the lord of the rings audo book tracks from the internet archvie.

unix.stackexchange.com/questio

seem to have the solution, I cant find the command I used in my command history though.

@kumicota is this a problem with Open source or as it says in the article people using it without contributing financially in some way.

IIRC when the ssh bug was found it turned out the developers' computer had broken and therefore was unable to develop or fix problems till that got fixed.

@kev We seem to be obsessed with age (at least in the uk)

Hardly helps to encourage equality and respect for others., but that seems to be how things are going in some sectors who also claim they are committed to equality.

@njoseph Thanks for this, I will post a link to this to a thread on

socialhub.activitypub.rocks/t

as I hve a thread on there about the UK online safety bill.

Facebook is using its army of lawyers to create a Trojan Horse into GDPR law so that they can just demand anybody's private information from any company using the loop hole of "legitimate interest".

It starts with the domain name registrars but doesn't stop there.

@cnti_ve

Do you have an account in English we can follow ?

If not, it doesn't matter.

@rixty_dixet

Thanks for this, I think this backs up my point, we should reduce emissions to improve air quality generally.

Trying to do so on the single basis of CO_2 and global warming seems to not take in to account the effects of air pollution on a more local level.

How we do this is up for debate, I think we need more green public transport, proper debates on the whole lifecycle of the fuel / transport (where does the fuel come from)

Encourage more use of walking / cycling etc.

Solve small problems on a local scale will eventually have a global impact that is better for everyone.

@zleap

The way i see it if an employee is acting in a way that warrants a drug test then thet should be fired if they are on drugs or not. If they werent negligent the drug test is moot.

@ScienceDaily@newsbots.eu

@freemo @ScienceDaily@newsbots.eu

Ah, i think in this case (It was on a consumer programme) the person had a sandwich, the bread had poppy seeds on it, so somehow the person tested positive for drugs.

When the programmed looked in to it, it made sense how this could have happened, but surely a competent person upon being told this, would see what has happened. or actually ask have you had something with poppy seeds on.

Testing suggests an element of mis-trust between the employer and employee.

Imagine a future without a boss. Sounds goods, right?

Be careful what you wish for.

Many gig economy workers are already #ManagedByBots, and it provides a worrying insight into what all of our jobs could look like in the future.

@freemo @ScienceDaily@newsbots.eu

Good point, I have heard of people being fired after eating bread with poppy seeds, as they test positive for opium in work drug tests.

Common sense should take this sort of thing in to account (and a decent knowledge of science from the people testing)

I guess if you are on some meds that would react with opioids, badly then taking those meds + eating poppy seeds could be problematic., but probably in very rare cases.

@ScienceDaily@newsbots.eu
@freemo

How is this any different to normal medications being mixed, doctors need to be careful generally to monitor any problems giving out different medications to patients.

I guess as cannabis isn't prescribed, by doctors then unless he / she knows the patient is using cannabis the can't take this in to account.
