Maybe you have a point in here in so far that these are simply tools, they can only do harm if misused

a little bit like using a sharp chisel incorrectly, it slips and impales your hand (or somewhere else), not the tools fault, it is YOUR fault for not using it correctly.

It's not real intelligence, it's just a probability table and it CAN create a serious problem

Human moderators have at least one thing that Computer AI probably lacks, this is instinct , as humans we know there is something wrong, as we have feelings.

The people creating these deep fakes KNOW what they are doing, they know it will hurt the person they are basing the fake on, they just don't seem to care or want to care, al they want is clicks, likes etc.

It will be interesting if these online safety laws appearing in many countries will have an effect.

I debated whether I would share this story, but it's already been reported on NBC News and Gizmodo.

Nevertheless, people need to know how utterly broken advertising and moderation is on Big Social.

This is critical to understand because most people are completely oblivious to the issue of deepfakes.

It could literally ruin someone's life.

Here's the story as reported by Gizmodo: gizmodo.com/deep-fake-ai-emma-

"It could literally ruin someone's life."

In many it already HAS damaged peoples lives, reputation, mental health etc

How can you teach children to care about each other when it's clear adults don't care about any of them?

An eight year old girl went to work with her father on "Bring your child to work day".

As they were walking around the office, the young girl started crying.

Her father asked her what was wrong. As the staff gathered round, the girl sobbed loudly:

"Daddy, where are all the clowns that you said you worked with".

This could perhaps be useful technology for endangered species too.

Microsoft’s official @dotnet sent its first Mastodon post today.

Pay attention to the domain: dotnet.social.

Which means Microsoft is operating their own Mastodon community server.

@dotnet account was registered in November, but it became active today.

Clearly, Microsoft sees the Fediverse as core to marketing to developers. I wonder what other brands they’ll bring to the Fediverse as well.

I am in no way a fan of microsot, however they are respected in tech circles, so I think this could deserve a cautions welcome.

I would like to see more small players on here though, small companies, start ups, small and medium businesses owned by people who care about their employees and customers.

The eco-system and lore works differently here, as long as they follow that, then why not.

@Gustodon

In the UK lying under Oath is perjury and can carry up to 10 years in prison, I am sure you would also be banned from practising law too.

Shows there is one rule for one group and another for everyone else.

Jenna Ellis, the Colorado lawyer who admitted she lied about Trump and the 2020 election is still a practicing attorney in good standing.

A sensible person would imagine that there must be some penalty for working against democracy in support of a lying gangster.

Indeed.

Ellis had to pay a $224 fine.

@phil

That is just ridiculous, I thought there were laws on cruel and unusual punishment,

@Cadoret

Interesting that one of the places earmarked to house migrants before they are deported is the very air base that 451 squadron took off from in their WWII dam busters raid against NAZI Germany.

Will #LibrePlanet2023 be fun if I just attend online? Yes, it will! In fact, we have a whole page dedicated to "fun," which includes Mintest and #LibreAdventure: u.fsf.org/3x8 Register for the conference ASAP to ensure you can be part of the online festivities!

@flexghost

The UK government has just passed a bill or it is going through the motions to ban this, in order to prevent and safeguard under 18s from forced marriage.

God help us, if the republicans win the next election, and I am saying this from the UK.
