@Alan I fear we are at a big disadvantage fighting the rising tide of authoritarianism due to the structural changes (at least in America) that have occurred over the last 30 years. Our politicians are, on the whole not responsive to voters, but to big money interests (academic studies upon request) money has become opaque making it near impossible to trace influence. The wealth inequality has given rise to individuals with such massive wealth they can sit on the scale
