I wonder if Octopuses can help pollenate, would add a new twist to the Beatles' Song Octopuses Garden from Abbbey Road.

Seaweeds are not plants. They’re algae, without roots or leaves, although they do photosynthesize: harvesting the sun’s energy to build themselves. BUT there are a small number of real flowering plants in the sea: the seagrasses, which evolved from terrestrial plants and grow in large meadows.  Mostly water moves pollen around, but for at least one species, small crustaceans do the job of bees and carry sticky pollen from one plant to another.  Underwater gardening, anyone?  #Ocean #Seagrass

I get you, this is the problem that a word can have different meanings and contexts, and if you use it, it can be misunderstood by others.

Over here in the UK a 'fag' is slang for cigarette, faggots are actually food, mostly from northern England AFAIK, however this is or was also a derogatory and offensive term for people who are gay, not used as much now of course.

This is the nice thing about fedi, we can learn about different terms, different cultures and hopefully avoid misunderstanding. I don't watch South Park so clearly didn't get the reference, which makes it harder to respond.

I like the original retort 'so what if I am' that is one way to respond regardless of what the other person may mean or intend by their actions / words.

On my writefreely blog I have mathJax installed

I think to write chemical formula I need to use something like

$\ce{H2O}$

It can work out that the 2 should be subscript

I can't seem to get the Latex to work in Markdown. Is is that I can't see it with my browser? How do I fix this? (I use Chrome or Brave)

example: \ (x+y=z\ )

@ExtinctionR

Lets just hope the change comes quick enough, time to also stop worrying about mass unemployment in the oil industry, this is a price very worth paying to stop our reliance on oil and move to sustainable, renewable sources. I would like to see a move to Hydrogen and solar, over the current move to Lithium, which is finite anyway and requires ecological damage to extract from the ground.

The existential threat to Oil and therefore the existential threat to Saudi Arabia and the OPEC cartel comes from China, not from net zero or from green deals in the West.

Sit up change is afoot!!

Bigger flowers, greater rewards: Plants adapt to climate disruptions to lure pollinators

There’s been a well-documented shift toward earlier springtime flowering in many plants as the world warms. The trend alarms biologists because it has the potential to disrupt carefully choreographed interactions between plants and the creatures—butterflies, bees, birds, bats and others—that pollinate them.

Ok on a serious note here, this is kinda worrying, are insects not adapted to see certain colours so they can pollenate flowers etc.

Plants may adapt but surely insects need to do the same.

I feel that open hardware is the only way those of us who want to run fully free software systems is to use tech such as this, it would be great to just move away from hardware that is in effect designed for windows, and has the firmware designed for windows too,k e.g that ufei boot thing,

I should not need some encryption key from microsoft to sign anything. ( granted I don't really understnad this UFEI thing at all)

So RISCV + LibreBoot + open wifi & other firmware are now essential, maybe boards with good amount of RAM say 8-16gb, with cases etc so we can have options for both desktop and laptops (and maybe tablets).

Two year old chips. Unbelievable. They could've been swimming in cocaine if they used their new CPUs, but I guess we'll have to wait for two more full years to have a RISC-V CPU with vector extensions.

Only we don't, because YOU CAN'T STOP CHINA!
XuanTie announced their C908 in December, the follow-up to their C906, which 2.5 years ago shocked the world with the first RISC-V Vector implementation, which was still a draft spec, and sold it cheap enough to buy 16 dollar boards with the CPU!
And unlike certain Intel-funded yuppies, they're actually producing their CPUs right now. Canaan announced their Kendryte K230 development board practically the day C908 was announced, they're mass-producing their boards so there's supply, and are going to release them within probably a month or two. And they're fully open-source hardware too, and they'll have RISC-V-V, and they'll be affordable!

A Completely Bogus Study Is at the Heart of the Ruling to Ban the Abortion Pill

The far-right Texas judge who cited the study in his ruling apparently didn’t care about where it came from.

The bombshell ruling that could take #abortion pills off the national market was based in part on a “study” of anonymous posts on an anti-abortion website
That study analyzed anonymous posts on an anti-abortion website called “Abortion Changes You,”

This may make it easier to challenge in court, however that is not much help in the short term.
