Updating this! Would appreciate a boost!

Lost my job recently and it's been rough out there. I'm a podcast editor, sound designer, and VA trying to build my portfolio. Let me craft your fiction or nonfiction audio into its best shape. I'd love to try my hand at a TTRPG! I can also edit videos.

I've written and directed for the award-winning audio drama Someone Dies In This Elevator and have my own in the works.

70 years ago, 3 papers appeared in @Nature under the title ‘Molecular structure of nucleic acids’. In an article in Nature today (link at end) @nccomfort and I shed new light on ‘what Watson and Crick really took from Rosalind Franklin’. This thread summarises our findings. 1/23

@npariente

So a question such as 'Who discovered DNA' the answer should be Rosalind Franklin,

Have you ever noticed how white people, particularly white men, always jump to 'well, we can't fix society because we can't stop the hate!' without actually doing something? Ha, yo like literally *anything.*

There has been so much scholarship and demonstrable history that shows effective strategy and organization against hate and harassment that so many people ignore entirely to focus on the doom and gloom to feel justified in their inaction.

And I'm not trying to hear it. Just say you don't give a shit. There are solutions, and your ass is just too lazy to do anything because you don't care and you like being the favored pleb under capitalism.

And before you ask, I have a fuck ton of books pinned to my profile that is chock full of the answers you seek.

That sounds a lot like me with home chemistry, the journey is not just doing the experiments but learning how to do them, then reflecting so I can repeat and do it better next time.

Physicist Marietta Blau was born #OTD in 1894. She pioneered the use of nuclear emulsion plates for particle detection, and discovered "disintegration stars" produced by cosmic rays interacting with nuclei in the plates.

a friend is nearly in tears because changing their KDE font to opendyslexic also changed the font ePubs render in in okular, meaning they can actually read their assignments.

this is why apps respecting your preferences is important, and it's why libre software (and KDE in particular) is so awesome.

unrelatedly, fuck electron.

2,571 books were banned or challenged in 2022, according to the American Library Association.

That’s up 40% from 2021.

Why the spike? Because nothing scares conservatives more than a multi-racial generation of young people who ask critical questions and speak truth to power.

CW’s are not and never are about silencing people or asking being to be invisible. They are about being considerate about other people’s needs, be it things that might trigger them to spoilers for their favourite show.

If you want to talk about something that deeply emotionally affected you, there’s a good chance it might have a similar affect on other people, people that might have had a very similar experience to you.

And they might not be in a place that means they can deal with that.

My stance on AI produced content for wellbeing of humanity: 2023 (1/3)

I am always open to discussion and correction.

If a model is trained on content of given license, say GPL or Creative Commons, I believe it's fair that content produced from this model must also comply with the original license.

IIRC there was an issue with Microsoft e-mail blocking disroot domains, it was investigated and fixed. As for e-mail i have not had a problem.

What happens if you add the address to your gmail addressbook? This is one suggestion for the person the other end to ensure the e-mail gets to them,

Standardisation proposal:

Starting fediverse urls with fedi:// to inform your client that the URL should not open in a new tab/browser but directly inside the client itself.

(was thinking of mastodon:// but realized this could apply to any ActivityPub URL)

This is first on Mastodon! Please boost this thread. It’s an important one.

Good morning to readers. Kyiv remains in Ukrainian hands.

Some career news: I’m leaving NPR as part of the layoffs that dramatically reduced the company’s workforce.

I’ve decided to go back into Ukraine to keep reporting.

But this time, alone.
