Happy birthday to us! Undiscovered Scotland began life 23 years ago today on 5 May 2000. The picture is of Sandwood Bay in north-west Sutherland, one of our favourite places in Scotland. More pics and info: https://www.undiscoveredscotland.co.uk/kinlochbervie/sandwoodbay/index.html

It really shows how iconic that pink floyd album cover is when I recognised it from just the top of the triangle, without reading the alt-text which did pop up.
#NowPlaying early 1970s #progrock & its sub-genres... Classic #typography of the period, from the unique and ornate to the stylistically absent, most suggesting an 'otherness', whether it be in historical time, from another culture, or from another world or universe entirely.

Thank you for this, really helpful. This also doubles up as evidence to counter any claims that 'no one uses the fediverse' if people try that as an excuse not to give it a go. It also counters any cliams the fediverse is hard to use.

Given how long ago OpenOffice forked in to Libreoffice it seems perplexing why people are still referencing OpenOffice.
It does make promoting free and open source software much harder.
I can't help with employment so will boost and tag a few people in who may be able to help or perhaps followers can.
Best of luck finding a new position.
My employer, Shopify, announced layoffs today and I've been affected. If you're looking for someone with deep experience with developer tooling and developer environments, I'd love to work with you. I've spent the last two years building Shopify's in-house cloud developer environment, and I have extensive experience building developer tools as one of members of the Homebrew package manager's Project Leadership Committee.
If Mastodon users don't know about the Fediverse, they don't know why the messages they receive look wonky sometimes.
"Why is this guy allowed to post with more than 500 characters?" they often wonder.
"Why are there links in this post? Why can't I see things that other people can?" they'll ask.
And then they realize, "Hey, that guy can quote post! I thought Mastodon didn't allow that! How is that possible?"
Well, yeah, because those deviations require the context of the Fediverse.

@therobburgessshow Maybe they are just inadequate when it comes to creativity, and AI is their way out and to blag they are good at something. I like home science, so just writing up my latest experiment, ok using LaTeX. So far I have drafted, redrafted, moved stuff around etc. This sort of thing takes time, effort and work to get the final document right.
Sure these AI bots could write it for me, what worries me is personal statements for jobs, I am really bad at these, I can work fine with kids, but ask me to write how my skills, experiemce match a job description I struggle. So do my best, now if another applicant gets chatGPT to do most of it for them, are they THAT good at writing am I at an disadvantage by not in effect cheating by using these tools.
As a teaching assistant, I may sound be pretty blunt in saying the first draft is always pretty rubbish, but that is a first draft, it is getting the ideas down, so subsequent drafts, the info is there, it just needs putting down in a better way.
Those of us who are good at our jobs are probably in less danger, if they get rid of the competent and keep the less competent then one day people will actually regret doing that.
I get crypto #spam tagged on #Twitter once every other day. I report it every time and have to manually block them every time. It doesn’t get better.
I’ve gotten one crypto spam tag on #Mastodon this morning, and it was already removed before I clicked the notification.
Having real people that care running your community makes a difference. Thanks for holding it down @Gargron and team! 🙏
