Louisiana man shot child playing hide-and-seek, sheriff says - Los Angeles Times latimes.com/world-nation/story

A Louisiana man has been charged with aggravated assault and battery after allegedly shooting at children who were playing hide-and-seek outside his home, striking a 14-year-old girl, officials said.

Russia's unregulated social media sites have been described as a "haven" for American pro-Kremlin extremists — a place where they are exposed to harmful propaganda and can freely share hate speech. Here's how these sites have been linked to a deadly shooting and the leak of U.S. classified documents.

In an entirely predictable and cowardly move, Trump lied on his social media platform that he had been silenced in the E. Jean Carroll trial. Trump was repeatedly given the opportunity to testify and chose not to. youtu.be/7zMxqa-3s7k

Hopefully content posted here, will come with the right captions and spark science and evidence based discussions.

Just posting the above as it will be interesting how the Fediverse is impacted by the Online safety bill

This is also interesting

Wikipedia will not perform Online Safety Bill age checks

Perhaps given how we operate and moderate content the fediverse may fall under

**Encyclopaedia exemption**

It wants the law to follow the EU Digital Services Act, which differentiates between centralised content moderation carried out by employees and the Wikipedia-style model by community volunteers.

On Tuesday, the House of Lords debated an amendment from Conservative peer Lord Moylan that would exempt services "provided for the public benefit", such as encyclopaedias, from the bill.

Heritage Minister Lord Parkinson said he did not think this would be feasible, but added that Wikipedia was an example of how community moderation can be effective.

@gwensnyder

Bluesky is just bluesky, Masttodon is part of the Fediverse, a much wider network of services, from writing, bogging, book reviews, video sharing, and other services that are all designed to integrate thanks to ActivityPub

You can follow me on peertube from here, and if post (and share) a video from peertube, it federates here too, you can comment from mastodom (or other service) and I can see that comment from either here or peertube. (I think anyway)

Hopefully people will see the bigger picture.

Well yea, thing is DeSantis isn't much better than trump, based on what he has done in Florida. We are both from the UK, look at the level of loyalty we get here with soccer teams. Or our own political parties, Some people will vote Tory, Labour or LibDem regardless of what happens.

@Tilopa@convo.casa

There are probably several groups

Those who will vote consistently for either Democrats or Republicans, but who may swing if needed
Swing voters who are undecided
Disinfranchised who may not bother
MAGA supporters who will vote GOP regardless
NRA members who will probably also vote GOP as the GOP support the 2nd Amendment.

The problem is convincing everyone to go out and vote, even those who believe the election is rigged so think why bother.

The undecided are usually the group than pushes the vote either way.

Social media plays a big part in how people vote or seems to be the case, if people get news from fox, or social media then it will be biased, very hard to vote objectivley when you only have one side of the argument.

@Tilopa@convo.casa

I would hope so too, however Trump followers and thinking may be a lot to ask. you probably have less than 18 months before the next US election.

@ernmander@floss.social @downey

Seems to be working ok from here.
