I guess when we talk about immigration, we should look at the other side of the story too.

Migration of Health Workers from Ghana

I am not anti immigration, but in this cpntext migration out of Ghana is causing real problems for the people there.

BBC article

Ghana patients in danger as nurses head for NHS in UK - medics
bbc.co.uk/news/world-africa-65

Same report cites social media as being partly responsible for this brain drain.

If anything, richer countries should surely be producing enough nurses & medical professionals to be able to send them overseas to gain more varied experiences and share this expertise world wide.

A good reason to tax the billionaires, corporations and find a way of helping countries such as Ghana keep hold of their essential workers, for the BENEFIT of the people in Ghana.

@glightly

The fact we are having a conversation about these problems is the first step, I am just a user but hopefully this will be picked up by the developers and those who decide on how things operate and over time the fedi will improve for the better.

@glightly

Hopefully fedi can be a good news source for all different topics

The shitty state of search engines these days is complicating my exit from Twitter. I could go to the extra work of combing the web myself to find the news I used to get from Science Twitter and Disability Twitter, but the search engines are horrible and steer people only to a few sites.

I ditched Meta products 5 yrs or more ago so finding community there isn't a good option.

I'm really angry at what corporations have done to the Internet over the decades.

@TheWookieman

I had one of the weebles playground set, part of this was a roundabout that could spin round, if I put the weebles on, then spun it around they would fly off (as you would expect) it was kinda fun, but at a very young age you don't think about physics.

Fediverse client apps need a seat at the table! This whole Reddit API fiasco shows the importance of this more them ever.

These are the Fastest Stars in the Galaxy

Astronomers have already discovered several stars on runaway trajectories, moving so quickly they're headed out of the Milky Way entirely. But a new survey has found six other runaway stars, including two which are moving faster than any stars ever seen. It's believed they were once part of binary systems, where their partners detonated as supernovae, and they were hurled out of the galaxy like a slingshot. These two stars have velocities of 1,684 km/s and 2,285 km/s, which means they went even faster when first kicked out.

With 37 counts he is really in trouble, still I guess he can earn him self in the Guinness book of records for being the US president with the most indictments, if you add the previous ones and the upcoming Jan 6th, he will have quiet a collection soon.

BTW, I think Trump's news today on federal criminal charges, was the third out of three breaking news stories in the past 3 months that I learned about first on the #Fediverse, and got well informed quickly by credible news sources here. Whereas pre-Elon that role would have been #Twitter. Frankly that breaking news source would have been the ONE thing Twitter was still uniquely good for then.
Times change.

@Edent

Not sure on the species, I know you can buy varous items to deal with them, including some wood block things, that I think are impregnated with something the moths don't like.

Best to deal with them before they eat materials such as carpets, curtains etc.

@realTuckFrumper

In most countries, kids of 13 worry about school work, hang out with friends and deal with puberty. In the USA they get to worry about if by the end of the day they are going to get shot by some idiot with a gun.

"The NHL likes to call Willie O’Ree the Jackie Robinson of hockey. And no one can deny how significant it was when he became the first Black player on the ice in an NHL game in 1958.  But what the league doesn’t like to talk about is what happened next.  Because after O’Ree, the NHL didn’t admit another black player for sixteen years. So did the NHL resegregate? And why don’t we talk about the experiences of the players who broke hockey’s second colour line?" canadaland.com/podcast/hockey- #Hockey
