@flore
I have made all 4, SO when I get a chance next week I will take photos and put them on my site.

I can then use this as an activity for the STEM group, now I know I can build all 4 others can too.

@flore

Cool thanks, I I will add them later

I need to also remember that have a 4 bond Nitrogen in place of a 3 bond nitrogen, as I ran out of the latter.

@zleap on this kind of representation, C and H bond to C are implied but not shown.
Yes, you should add an H to every C which has not explicitly 4 bonds (All bases are concerned)

@zleap @rolle
Yes, this is something that I have quite a few times pointed out that I have noticed is very different in the discourse here than corporate-owned social media sites. Here people solve disagreements with discussion.
The difference I noticed here is the lack of trolls. What happens on the corporate sites, and I mention ownership specifically because they are the ones who encouraged this, is that real discussion gets muted by mobs, who silence reason with regurgitated misinformation.

@ben
I think the issue IS, that companies such as Facebook, google etc have had had 20 years+ to get their act together and protect users from online content, they have failed, the porn industry has enough money to implement age checks, tech companies could have worked together to find ways to ensure content filtering works.

I remember being told (and I agree) that the W3C foundation are not there to censor the internet, they provide the framework so the tools can be developed to help with that, putting in the right meta tags would allow filtering systems to work better, but that is up to the web designer to implement this (Ok I don't fully understand that, but I think people get my meaning).

The result of this 'in action' has resulted in politicians stepping in and trying to come up with laws that force tech companies to actually do something, I agree there will be winners, losers, consquences that are unitended.

I remember being told by parents they don't understand stuff, and that was followed by laughing, so even parents were not taking issues of what their child is looking at, or talking to seriously.

I have said on here about children being here, we are NOT a child minding service.

If you look at the Molly Russel case, even instagram admit that the content she saw, should not have been on the platform in the first place, that girl was bombarded with self harm and suicide messages / content based on algorithms etc.

I am not sure how much of this has to do with how women are treated, how people like Andrew Tate could influence so many young minds, the fact he was allowed to do this for so long. If you look at the recent McDonanlds disclosure or abuse, it is pretty shocking, esp as many of the victims were under 18 and were too afraid to come forward. There has to be links somewhere.

Mental health issues seem to have skyrocketed, and social media has partly been blamed for this, look at the conspiracy people denying the holocaust, covid, vaccines, and climate change, all very influential and free to just do stuff. Granted so far one person has been hauled in to court, and I think that was the person who said Sandy Hook Massacre was a hoax.

In some ways the US laws and upcoming Uk laws are a result of our own failings, or rather failings of big tech, the fediverse was been created to make a fresh start, by users for users, so we have better control, different way to do things. We know and admit there are problems and are trying to deal with that.

So thank you Microsoft, google, facebook, et al for putting profits before users, you only have your self to blame, and everyone is going to suffer as a result of your inaction.

Your reminder that this isn't Mastodon, this is the Fediverse. And you can optionally use Mastodon, or many other pieces of fantastic software, to access the Fediverse.

Tell your friends.

A poster here on this instance who I follow and very much value, had a small post about a CSAM report done by Stanford. It was pretty shocking.

Stanford researchers find Mastodon has a massive child abuse material problem

@davey_cakes

What is windows 9?, I think they went from windows 8 to windows 8.,1 then to 10. ?

@AlexanderVI @kroltanz

You would think members of the church would practice what they preach eh.

We know they don't of course.

Firstly, sorry for the lack of detailed ALT text. I just want to ask a quick question on this.

I am building the DNA base molecules with Molymods model kit.

Looking at Cytozine, where there is a C = C bond, it leaves a carbon bond empty on my model, does this suggest I should but Hydrogen in that location? Even though Hydrogen is not explicily shown on the diagram(s)?

@kroltanz

I assume this Reverand skipped the part in Exodus, where god gives Moses the 10 commandments, one of which is Thou shalt not kill.

@elizaorlins

The US is usually first in line to have a go at other countries regarding their treatment of prisoners. Perhaps those countries just look at the US, the fact the US wants to show the way and follow the way the US does things.

Texas prisons raise prices 50% for fucking water for the people locked up in their unairconditioned state prisons as the heat wave continues and it hits over 100°.

For anyone who hasn't read about it yet, the Anti-Meta Pact is an agreement authored by Vanta Black on the beach.city instance, which many instances have been signing, promising *not* to federate with any Fediverse instances hosted by Meta / Facebook. (see fedipact.online/)

Doing the best I can with the 4 options I'm permitted...

Poll 3: How do you feel toward the Anti-Meta Pact, and what best describes your gender?

(boosts welcome)

@ned @rolle

I think everyone is welcome here, we are all capable of making an informed choice when it comes to muting, reporting and blocking of users.

No one is going to (or is expected to ) agree with everyone all of the time, but this is what I like, I can write something and someone will disagree and challenge what I have put in such a way it is respectful I can either reword or change my own thinking on the topic which in some cases could have been formed through reading a bad article for example.

@rolle

There has been a lot of nice comments on fedi here from new users, saying they are made to feel welcome, helped by the community, I would hope that this is the general feeling, we know that this experience is not shared by everyone however, but the same goes for mainstream corporate platforms.

What is important is we learn and develop.

I think there's good in Twitter rebranding itself. Finally nobody cares about the name and when people get used to it getting irrelevant, it's okay to move on to some Mastodon instance with a weird name. #X #TwitterX

Buses here in the UK have had wifi for some time, as have trains.

Urgent: Dana Fried on CSAM and Legal Issues

@mastodonmigration @tess @wakame

So is photoDNA similar to a checksum of the photograph, As each photo is unique then other than the resolution would a photo would have the same checksum. Or does the DNA software account for changes in photo resolution.?

I can take photos on my camera for e-mail etc as 640x480 but the normal resolution is larger than this. I can also resize images using gm mogrify -resize 600x480 image.jpg for example.

I agree we need to take action on CSAM, so more curious about photoDNA, here.
