Renewables are better: A common confusion is that to decarbonize, the world will need to produce the equivalent of coal, oil & gas in the form of low-carbon energy.
That's not true.
Most fossil energy gets wasted. In the US, just one-third gets turned into useful services. The rest is wasted as heat.

Can we invite them to the Fedi ?
Free speech Elon is at it again - X threatens to sue non-profit The Center for Countering Digital Hate, in a blatant attempt to shut them up. https://www.nytimes.com/2023/07/31/technology/twitter-x-center-for-countering-digital-hate.html
@flexghost TBH in modern year groups we now call this year 12/13 (so its very similar to USA, with a slight offset by a year) but those who don't have kids and/or are older often get confused with the year groups (they changed in the 1990s).
This trend is less prevalent in Britain, there has been a rightward shift amongst young lads and its worse than the early 90s but not as bad as it was in the mid-late 80s when I was in high school (lads were either hard left or hard right)
Within the context of the oil and gas companies' disinformation campaigns (forms of greenwashing, gaslighting, etc), we should try to educate the public that the oil and gas companies can't be trusted (at all).

May fedi live long and prosper.
That seems to show how arrogant he is, does the US really want this person as president again. The world does not, well maybe Russia, N Korea, Iran and China. and a few other places may find it most useful.
Which is why we need better role models,
Opt-in search of the Fediverse was just rolled out. Here it is:
Search has traditionally been very controversial on the Fediverse, but let's see how opt-in works.
Right now, this is a proof-of-concept and very bare bones -- but we'll see if it's embraced by everyone.

Agreed, they are meant to state if a product is being advertised, but some forget or don't, so they have got in trouble for that.
However many people are spreading false narratives and those people have a huge following and huge influence.
Nice to see the BBC joining the fediverse @BBCRD

I think it was last week when someone posted on here about a Diabetes medication being promoted for weight loss, it works for that, BUT the consequence is the demand has gone up meaning that those with Diabetes could be denied vital medication.
Some Social media influencers don't seem to care about the consequences of their actions, they get paid, to promote or convey a particular narrative, social media giants make money from all this so they promote this.
Of course there are responsible influencers out there, who are open and transparent about if they are adverting for example and only promote things in a responsible way.
It depends on how well it is taught, I guess. But yes finding and using information online is being taught and is part of digital literacy.
