In Beacon Hill Park, which is in Victoria, British Columbia, they have peacocks roaming around free. It's an amazing sight! This is my tribute to these amazing birds...

"And if children are the chief concern, consider that Stockholm’s congestion system resulted in children’s acute asthma visits to the doctor falling by 50%. Five years into its program, London – which began in 2003 -- found that congestion zone residents gained nearly 2,000 years of life due to the reduction of fine particulate matter."

📡 for those of you who are just tuning in
GBH News is a PBS/NPR newsroom in Boston, Massachusetts.
We start each day with a greeting, the weather, a news brief, and a poll.
It surprises me when we get people who say they think this is the full output of our newsroom, but of course it is not. We simply care enough about the #fediverse to engage here.
If you want livestreams/video, see here: https://www.youtube.com/c/gbhnews
If you want to do a deep dive, visit our website: https://www.wgbh.org/news/
What can we do to counter this, we really do need people who are pro- environment to be more active on here perhaps, other than that we seem to be moving forward one step then being pushed back 10 steps.
We need to improve our education system to include critical thinking perhaps, but that is long term, it will be far too late in 5 years probably.

I agree, I have heard similar stories about people trying toget involved with free softrware projects feeling that they are not only unweelcome but find a very toxic environment.
I try and welcome new users, suggest they can use #hashtags to find people with similar interests. But as a community we really MUST do better to welcome new users but also help them to find what they are looking for here.

I can see why people want to leave Mastodon. Since one of my posts has gone viral, I have had people tell me what is wrong with it in so many different ways. I’ve been bitched at for using the wrong hashtags. I’ve been bitched at because I didn’t suggest the use of CW‘s.
Totally 👏 not 👏 the 👏 fucking 👏 point 👏 of 👏 the 👏post.
I’ve been having to block so many people who want to gatekeep, police, and God knows what else.
This shit, right here, is why people leave Mastodon.

@zleap that said, the fossil fuels industry has a lot of PR around carbon capture because they see its potential existence as a means of maintaining social license to keep on extracting and burning. So there's lot of hype around it and money for small-scale projects to tout.

Boycotting Twitter for a day will prove absolutely nothing to anyone -- other than confirming to Musk that he's winning.
The right way forward is to just stop going there*. Then come over to the fediverse.
*Keep the Twitter account so no one swipes your username for nasty purposes...
Good, no one else has the right to do this, trump is NOT above the law.
Seems politicians think they are somehow about the law, oh and corporate bosses of course.

@zleap It's one of the reasons why the ICCC said we need sweeping changes across every aspect of society.
So we are very tied in to this, unless we make serous wider changes to our lifestyles.
So there is a much wider set of issues here. So we still need oil for a wider range of industries.
So with regard to crude oil, we seem to be associating Oil with just fuel for transport.,
However many more products come from Oil, so how tied in to oil are we in that respect ?
Thanks for this, so it is just part of a wider solution. Which our idiot PM has decided to just ride over with a steamroller and allow more oil and gas.
I will ask about question in a new post.
Etsy accused of 'destroying' sellers by withholding money
We simply can't trustr big players do play fair, I feel sorry for these sellers who are now being screwed over.
