I have boosted, It would be good to find out where these would normally be found? I know we have had a long dry period, (June) then I think one one of the wettest July on record, so climate change is one factor, could this also be a factor, however the spores must also get here somehow too.

Boost please British folk. Woods here are FULL of death caps. Amanita phalloides. In decades of picking I have never seen as many as here on Cambridge today. It not even usually common here. It's brutally poisonous, please share a warning to avoid it #mushtodon #fungi #mushrooms

This seems important, that the 1930s German courts helped fuel the rise of fascism — by going light on rightwing coup plotters and criminals.

We are learning a lesson like this today in America and I hope we learn it fast enough.

@Alon and quoting @tzimmer_history on the article he wrote that got cut.

From CU Boulder.

grades 8-12
There so many ways to create energy beyond fossil fuels.

Students investigate the thermal storage properties of some common materials: sand, salt, water and shredded paper. Students then evaluate the usefulness of each material as a thermal storage material to be used as the thermal mass in a passive solar building.

So grades 8 to 12 is 14 to 18 year olds,. Please explain why if they can do this, why the boffins can't do this or do we need to start sacking some 'experts'

@lyssachiavari @susankayequinn

The positiver thing from the climate crisis is the possibility of real change and science research in to creating more sustainable alternatives to as many of the products we get from oil as possible, some we may just hace to do without, others we can hopefully find replacements for.

For those of you on the Fediverse who are interested in a positive outlook on climate action (@susankayequinn comes to mind), I discovered a new Dreamwidth community today dedicated to that. Even if you're not on DW, you can follow posts via RSS green-joy.dreamwidth.org

Since when was any war favorable? Humans have been finding something to kill each other about for 1000's of years, and doing a fine job of finding more ways of doing so. As we are all the same when naked, we just fight over things thatr can be resolved through other means. As a human race we need to GROW up.

@therightarticle

Agreed, there is zero accountability as there are so many layers each layer just blames the other.

How do the US military and secret service people feel about trump possibly regaining the white house? (even the smallest possibility) Given that from what I understand (and have read) he never took notice in briefings, didn't take things seriously and we know he openly said he would destry iranian cultural and historical sites if Iran attached US shipping, to which the military had to remind him that they won't.

They MUST be really worried.

No one seems to be even raising this, surely the US military swear an oath to protect the United states, well they should say something to protect the US from itself.

@Remittancegirl

I don't even understand what conservative means, I guess it comes from conserve, like we conserve (protect) an eco system for example. But interms of politics, conserve what exactly other than their jobs, dodgy incomes and status.

With so much of the internet circling the drain, there's a major corner of the internet that's still a good news story - thank goodness for the 22-year-old Wikipedia powering on!

My recent editing there inspired my new post @PLOS:

Before too long ( and we are close to that point) saying you are American will be like saying you're an uneducated, idiotic bigot due to what is going (and being allowed to go) on in your country, LGBTQ persecution, Abortion rights, Trump!! is starting to really impact how the rest of the world sees Americans, and you will be treated the same regardless of which side of these issues you are on.

Totally unfair in many cases, but reap what you sew.

Very soon telling people you went to school in Florida will be the same as saying you didn't go to school

@aral

It should be good, still hoping I can get work as a tutor as some of the parents of the code club attendees seem interested in me helping with science and simple computing. I am going to hopefully have a chat tomorrow then get back to my employer on this.
