This may be a reason
Thanks for asking, as I can take a read and have a better understanding too

Aiming to promote teen hopelessness and suicide, Republicans in North Carolina pass three anti-LGBTQ+ laws in a single day, overriding governor's vetoes. https://open.substack.com/pub/erininthemorn/p/north-carolina-passes-3-anti-trans?r=1e885&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=email
Good question you need an electrician on this one.

i don't get why the wall power runs at 50 or 60 hertz if the human eye can only see 24

Hello. We have a new comet that could reach naked eye visibility over the next few weeks: C/2023 P1 Nishimura, discovered by Hideo Nishimura observing from Kakegawa, Japan on August 11th. Currently at +9th magnitude (with a bullet) in the constellation Gemini, the comet is well-placed in the pre-dawn sky. The comet is expected to brighten to +2 magnitude in early September, when it passes 0.29 AU from the Earth on September 13th, and reaches perihelion 0.22 AU from the Sun on September 18th.

The internet is amazing. I've just discovered a live webcam from a waterfall in Alaska where brown bears are fishing for salmon.
That's my evening sorted!

Not sure, one idea perhaps could be make it easier to find science papers, esp on freely available archives.

what would #fediverse server software specifically designed for scientists look like? #science https://www.nature.com/articles/d41586-023-02554-0

If judges can decide that medications cause dangerous psychological symptoms despite zero evidence of this, then I should be allowed to sentence people without ever attending the trial. Because that's how things work, apparently.
If that is her reaction to the sentencing she looks seriously shocked, probably thought she would get a light touch punishment.
We need a set of stamps with different fedi logos on,
I guess it depends on interest, I like science so there are a lot of science accounts on here, which for me is cool. As for sport, I am involved with my local UK based american football team, but the team is not on here officially, I just post stuff relating to the team.
I am following a few NFL teams. I am not generally interested in soccer, I have training on Sunday, this clashes with the world cup final, which I may be able to get updates on during training. I mostly follow science stuff.
It is difficult to build communities around something unless there are a LOT of people interested in that topic.
Give it time, we may get more sport here, but be warned, there are players in the premier leage who are black, they get a LOT of abuse from racists, So if soccer teams move to fedi, the some fans will follow BUT the racists may be the unwanted baggage that comes too. This is going to prove more work for admins.
This abuse is probably not just limited to soccer, other sports may have similar problems, and it is not JUST racist, we could end up with mysogamy to contend with too.

@erlend is correct.
While I think the current Fediverse servers different communities better or worse (for instance sports Twitter I don't think has migrated here yet) EVERYONE building out any form of #OpenSource software should make the Fedi their primary social home.
Far better community here than anywhere else in pretty much every regard now.
