The main difference between 9/11 and now, is that in 2023 we have global access to information, anayisis and 24/7 updates on what is going on, ok we did back then BUT in terms of the response we also ahve 24/7 updates, via multiple channels and from BOTH sides.
(Granted we also have 24/7 mis informatio)
As war crimes are being comitted they are not only being documented but documented online, blogs, articles, video, photos, these are being shared by others quickly too. We can see things happening in REAL TIME too. Which is more than can be said for the coverage of the 9/11 aftermath and subsequent illegal invasion of iraq and the invasion of Afghanistan.
There is zero escaping anything that happens, now matter how horiffic it is, that is bad for mental health I guess, bad for trying to cover things up (you can't) but is also good news for investigators who already have a good deal of evidence for war crimes on both sides.
If it ever comes to war crimes trials, no one is going to be able to fudge their way of out being in the dock in the Hague or where ever else.
9/11, Gaza
9/11 was a terrorist attack that killed thousands of US citizens. But Iraqi children didn't commit 9/11. Using white phosphorus against kids is a war crime. Intentionally denying kids water is a war crime. Indefinitely locking up "enemy combatants" without charge is a human rights violation.
👩🏼🇺🇲 "Terrorism is bad. I lost family members on 9/11. But I don't want my government committing war crimes on my behalf. We should not use WP on kids in Fallujah. We should restore food and water."
I looked up this, photos of ghettos housing Jews during WWII
That photo would look cool if they were walking left to right across the crossing
I get the impression from people on here if a piece of marble hit clarance thomas on the head, they would not be too bothered.
FANTASTIC news from Lundy
"There are more seabirds nesting on the island of Lundy than at any time since the 1930s, conservationists have revealed.
The tiny island in the Bristol Channel, a globally famed location for Britain’s seabirds, is now home to 25,000 Manx shearwaters – 95% of England’s breeding population – as well as 1,335 puffins and more than 150 pairs of storm petrels, a species that only arrived on the island in 2014."

Good point, and I hope you are right in this and also hope that Israel show restraint i n not provoking a wider conflict, either intentionally or by miscalculation.
@zleap @exador23 I disagree. The US is in a very different place from where it was under Bush and Trump, even Obama. It is inconceivable that Blinken and the rest of the Biden administration would push for a wider war, especially with Europe in such a dangerous place, a embers smouldering in the Pacific. And, as you say, the link to Iran is tenuous at best, for all the conspiracist ranting from the Trumpies and Bannonies about how "Biden is funding Iran".
LLoyd Austin and the Isreali politician, I can't help thinking they are pointing the finger at Iran over this, and saying they are somehow involved, while offering ZERO actual hard evidence. History is repeating itself here as they pulled the same BS in 2001 with the illigal iraq invasion.
LLoyd Austin seemed to also dodge some of the questions about the illegal actions to say he will let his counterpart answer, which of course he didn't
What I am also fearing is they will find some excuse to bomb Iran, and I mean any excuse, they can plant evidence so they can blame Iran then go in and kill thousands more people, destroy another sovergn UN nation, remove the legit government of a soveign country and possibly destroy important cultural and world heritage sites at the same time.
Fully agree, it seems we on Mastodon have a huge amount of humanity towards the Palestinian people and we can see the true horror of what is going on, at the same time I see very little suport for Hamas, sympathy for the victims of Saturdays massacre but zero support for the actions of the Isreali governments response.
Lets see what happens and prepare some nice big graphics with the simple words "TOLD YOU SO!!"
I am not sure what the answer to that is, but denying people basic human needs, food, water, power, medical suppies is a breach of international law.
As pointed out by people this is 'collective punishment', Palestinians are being punished for the actions of Hamas.
On another note in the west bank restricting access to a mosque for prayer is surely a breach of the human right to practice their relgion so another crime against humanity.
What is to say that some Hamas fighters are not moving south with the population.
What I fear now is a western endorsed blood bath on a horrifc scale.
Jusft listening to LLoyd Austin. Hamas targets civilians, democracies don't
So why have they dropped 6000 bombs on Gaza
Why have they cut off food, fuel and power to Gaza
Why have they dropped White phosphorous on Gaza
These are WAR CRIMES and NOT self defence.
Even the UN have issued warnings about the demand from isreal for Palestinians to move south 1.1 million of them, despite he warning of a humanitarian catastrophy which have gone igored.
The ICC prosecutor needs to break his silence on Israel-Palestine
I agree with what is being said here.
I have no idea what that means either.
When governments say their country supports Isreal could they change their words to say that the goverment supports Isreal.
Otherwise, in current situation it implies that the people of that country fully support the bombardment of civilians, the cutting off of aid, water, fuel, and electricity, which is in violation of international law.
I am sure a vast majority of people also support the people of Isreal rather than the actions of their government which at times is in clear violation of international laws.
To imply that we support the 2nd paragraph is just inaccurate.
Same goes for support of Palestinians vs the support of Hamas, most people support the former.
Governments do not always speak for their people.
