Scientists lay out a sweeping roadmap for transitioning the US off fossil fuels

In a sweeping 637-page document, the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine made 80 recommendations for how the United States can justly and equitably pursue decarbonization policies. It includes recommendations for everything from establishing a carbon tax to phasing out subsidies for high-emissions animal agriculture and codifying environmental justice goals

@seachanger

This actually makes sense, as how can Hamas (or anyone) release hostages safely when there is a risk they may get hit my missiles, rockets or bombs, ?

@knittingknots2

I agree there, IIRC we have the middle east region to thank for things such as writing, but they also created many things that appear to be way ahead of their time.;

I am sure we found a fragment of some sort of calculation device.

They also accepted the |Earth goes round the sun, and that appears to be centuries before the world of Christianity caught up, which for some is very recent something like the 1990 when the some how accepted that as the truth, probably reluctantly

I wonder what archaeological history is still hidden the region esp Iran and Iraq.

@zleap The Middle East has a fascinating history. Like the House of Wisdom in Baghdad, gathering knowledge and part of the Translation movement that preserved Greek knowledge at a time my British ancestors were in a pretty dark period...The university system in Europe, and later the Renaissance, would have never arisen without that...

@zleap

Its become very obvious that while the powers that be are pretending everything is status quo, that the vast majority of them have been playing the system to become rich off the backs of the citizens. They hide it, dole us out enough to keep us moderately happy, and become filthy rich themselves never intending to ever pay any taxes on that wealth. But they have full intention to find further ways to take us down for their benefit.

Money ruined everything AGAIN.

The wealthy are destroying the world for all of us.

@knittingknots2

I agree, it is complex I did watch the documentary on this and posted the link here.

We need to study or be able to ask questions and teachers need to be not afraid to discuss the topic.

@LaNaehForaday

Ah it relates to this, I remember a few reports about that.

II agree, maybe the US is guility it can hardly say much about how the Israeli government treats people in Gaza when they do what they do at the border or have done.

As people have said the US needs to get its own house in order.

@br00t4c

Ah US conservatives, if they are protesting Israel those who stand by Israel are condoning what has happened to day and don't see any red lines being crossed other than the attack(s) by Hamas.,

Perhaps when protesting it needs to be clear that the protest is against the government and leadership and those protesters stand with the people.

I think even the people of Israel are not happy with the way things are going and we should stand by them against their government.

about half of my colleagues at #Bandcamp just got laid off, after Epic Games sold us to Songtradr a few weeks ago

so if your company has any vacancies and you want to hire compassionate and highly-driven people, especially in any musical or altruistic tech businesses, please share your links and I'll pass them along

@Simulacrum@mastodon.social @palestine @israel @climate

Agreed, I wonder if what is going on will be a final turning point when those in power realist that people are fed up with them abusing that power and want change.

One of the Fundamental british values is meant to be Rule of Law. I would assume this includes international law.

@MichaelTBacon

I agree, both sides have committed atrocities, however if it comes to the ICC testimonies I suspect the Palestinian people may point equally towards Hamas and Israeli governments when it comes to who they blame.

We just need to stop the madness NOW.

@realTuckFrumper

To commanders are a legit target, civilians and esp children etc are NOT remotely legit targets.

@LaNaehForaday

I understand bringing cases is not easy, Trump is clearly a priority due to what is has done, i just hope the hague can investigate what is going on fully.

@zleap

I do want to make sure you know that Jack Smith was brought from The Hague to deal with Trump for AG Garland. It took him several months to get here but once here, he has been Special Council. I have not forgotten that the person that Merrick Garland pulled in to deal with Trump wasnt conveniently available and already working here in the us: No, Jack Smith has been at The Hague. And Jack Smith has pulled in another that he also worked with from The Hague.

@LaNaehForaday

I have been thinking about this for a long time, the UN is a weak, bureaucratic, pathetic useless organization. It seems to sit by and let atrocities happen and has zero plan as to how to deal with anything.

Meanwhile innocent civilians die daily all over the world due to their total failure.

Something HAS to change

@GottaLaff

This Madness and GENOCIDE has to stop. This is intentional targeting civilians, esp children, and I HIGHLY CONDEMN these attacks as nothing more than WAR CRIMES.

I really don't want to think what the retribution for this is going to look like.

RIP victims

ROT IN HELL those responsible.
