Reminder that if you're feeling lonely today, see this hashtag:

➡️ #JoinIn

There are lots of people (myself included) keeping each other company on there, with all kinds of posts from hot chocolate recipes to historical photos to horses covered in tinsel to just general thoughts and chatter.

You can use the hashtag however you want, serious or fun, and anyone using the tag is welcoming of replies and discussion so it's a great way of striking up a conversation.

See you there! ☃️

@zleap

I just learned a quick way I thought of share with you.

Thanks for your quick reply.

I don't think this is getting the coverage it needs. Scottish government to require passivhaus standard for all new build homes. This is big. Really big. Growing out of lessons from the 70's oil crisis. Passivhaus buildings use very little energy to heat, or to cool. We've known how to do this for decades. It's gross negligence from all western governments that the same is not true of all new builds in the developed world.

So many of you cared enough to migrate from Twitter to Mastodon.

Now I'm going to encourage you to go further:

1. Migrate from Instagram to Pixelfed
2. Migrate from WhatsApp to The Matrix.
3. Migrate from Facebook to Friendica

Do to Mark Zuckerberg what you already did to Elon Musk.

I took this picture 14 years ago - and now, thanks to the hashtag #Mosstodon, it will hopefully get the recognition it truly deserves!

Moderation notice:

We decided to silence the mastodon.se instance.

Their admin is as per the receipts adamant that sweden democrats should be able to use his instance.

The issue which he is skirting around is this.

The sweden democrats were formed by none other Gustaf Ekström, a former member of the nazi Schutzstaffeln.

This isnt your ordinary alt-right, these are their role-models and ideologues.

Wow.
1,000 ex-Air Force members in Israel say lawyers should fight back against the incoming gov’t, because Netanyahu’s far-right coalition aims to make Israel an authoritarian state.

“We come from all strata of society and from across the political spectrum,” the letter said. “What we have in common today is the fear that the democratic state of Israel is in danger.”

This is what DeSantis and the #MAGA GOP are trying to do in the US.

“It is not our diversity which divides us; it is not our ethnicity, or religion or culture that divides us. Since we have achieved our freedom, there can only be one division amongst us: between those who cherish democracy and those who do not.”

Mathematician John Conway was born #OTD in 1937. He made broad and profound contributions across all of mathematics, but he is maybe best known by the general public for his "game of life" cellular automaton. Conway passed away in 2020, from COVID-19.

Dear MAGA,

The elections aren't rigged. The courts aren't rigged.

Your leaders and 'influencers' are lying to you. Over and over again.

Yet, you insist on giving them your hard-earned money as you attack the people trying to tell you the truth.

You are being played.

"Google will do to the #fediverse what they did to email".

But this is not email. There's nascent community here, an inchoate shared culture, saplings of governance.

Community creates resilience. That's why Google has not been able to kill #Wikipedia. They tried their hand at building community repeatedly & failed.

Yes, every server is different. But there are clusters of commonalities, shared values & transferable practices. These are foundations we can build on to prevent a GMail scenario.

2022 isn’t the year that we emerged from the pandemic.

It’s the year we chose to normalize ignoring it and leaving the most vulnerable behind.

Hi, I'm Jo. I'm from rural Wisconsin, USA. I left Twitter for Mastodon. What a mess over there. 🙄

I'm an amateur #photographer & short #filmmaker. My subjects of interest are #pets, #wildlife, #nature, & the beautiful characteristics of #humans, etc.

Our home, the "Chickadee Cottage," is my studio. 🙂

I'm a Mechanical Engineer by trade & worked on Military Defense products, such as #Thadd.

I'm looking to connect with other #kindhearted, genuine, #funnypeople. Any takers? 🙂
