Days later, Twitter is still blocking links to the BBC documentary about Modi and Musk has yet to say anything about the censorship other than that he didn't know about it. That was 6 days ago. https://kenklippenstein.substack.com/p/elon-musk-continues-to-block-access

If it's anything like NYC if you want to have a good classroom library you build it yourself. Sometimes you can get the school to buy the books, but just as often they just slowly collect as you find things you know your students will like or might need.

I have a fairly big math library. That's also becoming an electronics library.

Lots of cool stuff you can't find online.

Point is these collections take years and years to build and represent a huge investment from teachers.

My latest on @dailykos: On Tuesday morning, Donald Trump released an anti-transgender tirade of a speech on his social media website Truth Social, outlining a genocidal plan against all transgender existence in the United States. Everyone on the right from mainstream Republicans to hardcore neo-Nazis are celebrating the video while Democrats and legacy news media outlets have so far completely ignored it. “So this is what we are up against,” tweeted legislative researcher and pro-transgender activist Erin Reed. She continues, “a national transgender ban in 2024. This is what they are planning. DeSantis is practicing this through executive actions in Florida. Trump is openly saying he will do the same.”

Good morning, the empty bookshelves in Florida schools keep my head busy, since I'm a teacher with a library in my classroom in Berlin myself. That's a history lesson in front of our very eyes and exactly how fascism started in Germany. Books were banned and then burnt and everyone said, well, I can't do anything, I don't want to loose my job, I don't like it, but... Many little steps were made by many little people who didn't stand up against a new little rule. You know how this ends.

"The Russian war of aggression against Ukraine is a fundamental attack on the peace and security architecture in Europe.

So, we urgently need to strengthen our common Foreign and Security Policy in the European Union", says @davidmcallister MEP.

I was planning to procrastinate today but never got around to it

Because police don't solve crimes the way that TV shows pretend they do. Most serious crimes, especially murders, are solved by:

1) someone calls the cops (caller)
2) someone tells the cops exactly what happened (witness)
3) cops gather enough evidence to show that the witness's story is credible
4) DA builds a case

Without callers or witnesses, it's almost impossible to even know who committed a murder, let alone get a conviction in court. And Black folk don't call or play witness.

I dunno, maybe social media is just a bad indicator of real public opinion

If this child was strong enough to survive colonization, land theft and reservation internment — then white kids should be strong enough to learn about it in school. #nativeamerican #NativeNations

Police are worse than useless. They are actively harmful. We just had a medical emergency with one of our encampment residents. She was flat on the ground, stuporous, with severe decerebrate posturing and breathing normally.

The cops radioed it in as an overdose (which means EMS will take forever to respond), even though there were no signs of OD. To make things worse, the 911 dispatcher confirmed to me that the cops had given them the complete wrong address in their call.

Even worse, I was the only one on scene carrying Naloxone. The cops made everything worse and were not even prepared for an overdose. The cops asked me several times if I could administer Narcan; I had to correct them repeatedly and tell them there were no overdose symptoms and that the woman had a recent history of aneurysm. They stood their and did nothing, and were afraid to even touch her.

NEVER assume that police have made a proper emergency call. Always call 911 yourself. Carry Narcan.

Microsoft’s post-layoffs Halo studio is smaller and switching to Unreal Engine

/ A new game codenamed Tatanka will use Unreal Engine instead of the previous in-house Slipspace engine used for Halo Infinite, according to a new Bloomberg report.

Hey website and mobile app designers, how about letting me type the damn time in, instead of requiring me to use weird-ass, nigh-unusable wheel or slider interfaces you insist on coming up with?

Seriously, stop trying to be smart. Give me a text box where I can type four digits and a damn colon.

Your UI/UX ideas are bad and you should feel bad.

Well said, we're just a completely lost and shitty country. It's gone completely off the rails and it's not looking like it's going to get any better.

I don't mean it go off on a rant here, but, my fellow Americans, we live in a country in which a six-year-old boy deliberately shot his first grade teacher with his mother's gun twenty-five days ago, and the national reckoning, the deep soul-searching and re-evaluation of every law and every cultural norm that has followed is... nonexistent. God bless America.

The school system's superintendent was removed, and the principal was reassigned, while the assistant principal resigned. The kids at this elementary school now have to walk through metal detectors and use clear plastic backpacks under the watchful eye of two cops. Which did no good at all less than a year ago in Uvalde, Texas. God bless America.

And that's it! Nobody has even bothered making a serious plea to change anything at all, because we know nothing will change. Virginia won't change anything any more than Texas did after the Uvalde shooting. We just know that this is now a part of life: sometimes people go to school to get shot. Sometimes it's children being shot. Sometimes it's children doing the shooting. Sometimes it's both. God bless America.

You might say it's been overshadowed in the news by the cops who murdered yet another Black man, a situation in which the Black cops were fired and charged with murder, while the white cops were put on administrative leave. But that murder didn't even happen until the next day, and didn't become public knowledge until three weeks after Virginia shooting. God bless America.

You might say it's been overshadowed in the news by January 6 being the anniversary of an attempted insurrection, for which the prime suspect remains at large. God bless America.

But if that's true, what does it say about this country that a six-year-old shooting his teacher takes third place at most to still more murderous cops and a scofflaw ex-president getting away with inciting rebellion?

God bless America.

My son bought two tickets to Ed Sheeran in Wellington on Thu night. It's his first gig away from home, his friend can't go and there has been no takers for the other ticket on FB marketplace, and he would hate it to go to waste. He paid $190 for it, but if you can have it for anything from $0 upwards, you name your price. This is not a bidding toot! Would very much prefer it go to someone who would really appreciate it, so please be considerate. Boosts welcome, DM me.
