I'm pretty pissed that I have to leave my home, my state, my community, my family, my land- because fucked up politicians want to punch down at #transkids. I hope we like New Mexico. *sigh*
Moving with 5 months notice, out of state, when I've lived in the Austin area for the last 25 years? Yeah, I'm pissed.
This brings up the issue of screen readers, as long lists of repetitive hashtags make life difficult for blind people who rely on screen readers to read posts out loud.
This issue can be reduced by putting all the hashtags in a list at the end of the post, with a "Hashtag list" warning before the list.
However, this still isn't perfect, and the current system of tagging has many other issues too.
I've tried to suggest a possible solution here:

How far we've come in the last 50 years!
Back in 1972, a team at JPL spent days pasting together photographs taken by Mariner 9 by hand to create a 4-foot globe of Mars. https://www.nasa.gov/image-feature/technology-then-and-now

Let’s talk about Uranus … the planet 😉
In this new #JWST image of the ice giant, we see Uranus shining in reflected near-infrared sunlight.
We can see 11 of the known 13 rings (although some are so bright they blend together in the image). We also see at least 6 of the planet’s 27 known moons.

BREAKING: In a huge victory for humanity, the European Parliament voted to list "ecocide" as an international atrocity crime on par with genocide. Ecocide statutes could soon be part of domestic law in all 27 countries of the EU.
More serious progress. @ecocidelaw @marietouss1
The number of new registrations on Mastodon.world
has been a bit higher the last few days, above 200 per day.
We have now passed the 160.000 registered accounts.
Also, for the first time since the November user-inflow, the number of Monthly Active Users has gone up, now around 35.500
Welcome everyone! 👋
Excellent video on "What is the Frame Rate of the Human Eye?"
(Spoiler: Whatever number you're thinking right now, you're wrong. The answer is none.)
Also has some receipts to back up that claim. I feel like this is important watching for anyone interested in film or displays.
I'm not sure you heard of this:
Barroso is a region in northern Portugal, classified as world heritage for agriculture by the FAO - United Nations, one of the few lef in Europe where sustainable farming practices are still the rule.
A canadian/english mining company now wants to destroy it, by opening the largest open air lithium mine in Europe. This will feed German and French electric car production, with a so called value chain crossing all Europe, up to the swedish regions where another war is ongoing, against ore mining and car batter factories.
They have been called lithium wars, and resistance is heating up.
We currently are waiting for the 31 of May, when the Environmental Agency from the government will make a final decision on the Mine, and unfortunately, a YES-GO is expected. There will be resistance!
I've covered it for the BBC Radio 4's The Scramble for Rare Earths “The Hidden Paradox”
(altough the BBC is not exactly on our side)

There is also this awesome doc by my friend, done after the Zapatistas were in Barroso:

This video is about a resistance climate kamp "In defense of Barroso", against the biggest lithium open pit mine of Europe planned to the north of portugal. Yes to LIFE. No to MINES.
you can follow @barrososemminas or @rcinfo for regular updates on the lithium wars in Barroso.
Altough we know that historically Europe has been guilty in the exploitation of the worlds resources, it now is turning inside, selling it's own peasants and native peoples to the trans-nacional buisnesses. This in no way can be confused with historical reparations, as we do not wish to impose the brunt of the so-called green transition on any people's or ecossistems. The only option is Degrowth and the end of consumerism and extractivism, not Green Capitalism and electric cars. This just helps the fossil and gas economies to trhive, by on the one hand, not offering a real solution, and on the other, trying to create a mentality which says that opposition to green capitalism is reactionary.
If Apple won't abide by EU market rules, they should be banned. It is that simple.

I have always been fascinated by the Apollo 8 mission. Sure, humanity on the moon is cool, but imaging going there and around… that far… for the first time. What a story!
“We came all this way to explore the moon, and the most important thing is that we discovered the earth.”
— William A. Anders, Apollo 8
Apollo 8 (December 21–27, 1968) was the first crewed spacecraft to leave low Earth orbit and the first human spaceflight to reach the Moon. The crew orbited the Moon ten times without landing, and then departed safely back to Earth.[1][2][3] These three astronauts—Frank Borman, James Lovell, and William Anders—were the first humans to witness and photograph the far side of the Moon and an Earthrise.

Tonight is the first full moon of spring in the northern hemisphere! Pink flowers coming into bloom lend their name to this full moon.
Full moons occur when the Moon is opposite the Sun in its orbit around Earth and its nearside is fully illuminated.

@zleap It's not an either or situation, you can do both. Just like with #JustStopOil or #BLM actions can be taken on many fronts: through political activism, education efforts and destroying monuments.
The situation is further complicated in Poland due to the role Church played during the communist era and current political considerations (like the abortion ban and the upcoming elections in the fall).

GREAT NEWS: Twisted Sister lead singer Dee Snider has granted permission for the use of his song "We're Not Gonna Take It" for gun control promotional purposes.
In response to a tweet from a fan on Twitter, Snider's viral quote tweet reply noted that he is a gun owner but "Assault weapons were never meant for anything but combat!"
There have already been more than 130 mass shootings in the United States in 2023, more than one per day.
Drop a💙if you support Dee Snider granting permission and agree that more artists should do so.

For many people, reproductive rights feel like a non-issue because they would never think about having an abortion. But even if you are actively trying to expand your family, abortion bans passed by Republican-dominated legislatures across the country could affect you and your family.
That is because the reach of these invasive, oppressive laws goes far beyond abortion. We explore why that is today in The Big Picture: https://thinkbigpicture.substack.com/p/strict-abortion-laws-affect-miscarriage
