Jeni interviewed astronomer Dame Jocelyn Bell-Burnell, discoverer of #pulsars (little green men!). They talk about the barriers, difficulties and triumphs of being women in science as well as life time of astronomy #astrodon

Just realized that I'm working on a lot of Fediverse projects:

1. #GreatApe, a federated audio/video P2P streaming server

2. #SpaceHost, a fully-managed Fediverse hosting service

3. An "unnamed" federated crowdfunding platform

4. An "unnamed" onboarding platform for the Fediverse

5. A local Fediverse server, vancity.social, #Vancouver's home on the Fediverse

6. A general #Calckey server, calckey.social

7. An art #Calckey server, calckey.art

8. Testing of various clients and platforms...

I would appreciate it if people could help me get more federated on my new instance. Please boost this post if any of the following tags apply to you so I can follow!

Migrating here from mastodon.lol, which is shutting down soon. So here's my #introduction -

I'm a #pagan #polytheist #animist #queer #author #artist and spiritworker. My specialty (obsession) is all things #minoan

I'm the founder and Temple Mom of Ariadne's Tribe - Modern Minoan Paganism.

I've written magical #fiction, Pagan/historical #nonfiction, an adult #ColoringBook, created a #Tarot deck and collabed on another.

I love #gardening and #LivingHistory and preindustrial skills and animals of all sorts ( #cats #dogs #chickens #cows etc.). I hope one day to have a little country homestead.

And I'm very happy to be here!

Bit of a long shot, but could my good mastodon follower folk give me some boosts?

I'm starting work on a documentary podcast series about the future of space; renewable/sustainable technologies, commercialism in the sector and the public's perception of it all.

I'm hoping to connect with people who know space to complement my client's contacts, so any signal boosting would be appreciated!

In an unprecedented display of cosmic power, a supermassive black hole shredded a giant star, creating a light show 1,000x brighter than your average supernova. Astronomers have a new nickname for the black hole: "Scary Barbie."

The black hole first received a random name: ZTF20abrbeie. Its nickname came from its "terrifying" characteristics, said study co-author & Purdue University assistant professor Danny Milisavljevic.

@zleap @truthat I am all on board with that. There needs to be protections from the govt to protect them. But they should also be able to work if it’s relatively safe. Even in my teens, I rarely worked more than 1 school night a week and was done by 10 or 11 at latest. It was always weekends and summers so as not to interfere with school. I was doing this at age 12. My entire point was that the headlines made it seem like kids couldn’t work before and now they can which wasn’t true

I left my Diaspora server for three months, and when I come back, it's full of racists and anti-vaxx conspiracy theorists.

Decentralization is not a magic serum that fixes social media.

It's just one tool.

Blast from the past - The #O2 mobile phone shop in #Nuneaton has gone (presumably) and the old BT Cellnet fascia has been revealed. Makes sense of course. Cellnet became BT Cellnet in 1999, which then became O2 in 2002. So this sign has been hidden for over 20 years.
