Sara Sharif: Murdered girl was being home schooled, says neighbour

bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-surr

Apparently she was 'Known to the authorities"

This will result in MORE regulation for home schoolers, and the issue of incompetent individuals who fail to act properly on concerns will nevr be addressed, the usual soundbites "lessons will be learned"

Perhaps rather than giving these useless managers / social workers promotion, then allowing them to take up other similar jobs, they should be SACKED, stripped of pensions and barred from any positions where the welfare of others is at stake.

It would provide an incentive to others that when it comes to safeguarding it is their job to ACT and not make excuses.

Perhaps reduce the benchmark where people can intervene.

Once again the UK shows it self up as the place to be if you want to fail and climb up the ladder

NatWest: Former boss set for £2.4m pay package after Farage scandal

bbc.co.uk/news/business-665909

Most people would be sacked, be denied the chance to work notice and not be paid a bonus, ironically it would be MANAGEMENT making that decsion but never when it is THEM in the FRAME for failure.

Lucy Letby: Parents accuse ex-hospital boss of 'total fob off'

bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-mers

is this any surprise, once again MANAGERS have failed failed failed, fobbed off victims, and even told Concerned doctors to say sorry to Letby ( you get similar nonsense in schools, when staff try to enforce rules. )

We need an immediate Judge let, statutory enquiry in to this, people will then HAVE to attend and appear before a JUDGE, and if the refuse DRAG THEM THERE PHYSICALLY IF NEED BE.

Until this happens, and those managers are sacked and hopefully BARRED for similar posts in order to safeguard people in the future.

Once managers are actually accountable, they will be too terrified to do nothing and will actually ACT properly on concerns.

@zleap The apps are, yes. The server will pull for changes at regular intervals and update the apps automatically if they’re compatible with the version of Kitten installed. And Kitten, similarly, will update automatically (unless the current app version doesn’t support it). So the goal is the severs will be fire and forget.

According to sources, around ten HISD teachers from the special education support staff were told their positions would be eliminated immediately and allowed to move to another position in the district.

Devs should really grab an old netbook from ebay with an atom cpu and 1-2GB of ram and see how well their new React app works on that

Humanity might become extinct in five ways. Some of the most plausible scenarios that could wipe out our species include nuclear war, pandemic, asteroid impact, supervolcano eruption, and artificial intelligence. Possible ways to prevent or survive these catastrophes include global cooperation, space colonization, and technological innovation.

Deeply annoying and time-consuming to switch all my domains away from Google. I'm using CloudFlare based on advice from others.

Lesson 101 you can't trust any product from Google will have continued support.

I support public education. Teachers and support staff are awesome.

Question: Given the distributed/democratic nature of #Mastodon and the #Fediverse, is there any way to be able to accurately glean nation-level statistics for users? Take the graph attached below showing the “Number of Twtter users in Canada from 2012 to 2021”. The peak was 7.6 Million in 2021. I am willing to bet that number did not break 8 Million since and has dropped now. Is it technically possible to glean this information in anything other than scraping people's profiles for mentions of Canada?

It's a problem, we have plenty of time to act: 16%

It's fine, nothing needs to be done: 11%

It’s rare for the New York Times to acknowledge that a take is so bad that they changed the headline but they did for this one.

Original headline followed by new one.

I really struggled with the icing for my gingerbread barn and it accidentally became a gingerbread slaughterhouse.
