America’s rightwing billionaires have a plan to utterly destroy the American middle class and make this country permanently safe for the morbidly rich. Will we let them get away with it?

In the US, the positive rate of #COVID19 testing is rapidly approaching the third-highest rate of the pandemic. The CDC says we're at 13.4% and still rising. That's less than a point away from the July 2022 and November 2022 peaks. There is some evidence COVID in wastewater may be moderating, but it'd be premature to conclude we've peaked. The risks of infection are quite high right now, and it's worth being a bit more careful this weekend. #WearAMask

Several years in the making, GitLab is now very actively implementing #ActivityPub! 🙌

https://gitlab.com/groups/gitlab-org/-/epics/11247

The end-goal is to support AP for merge requests (aka pull requests), meaning git.alice.dev can send an MR to gitlab.com/Bob/project.git

First bite-sized todo on the implementation path there is ‘subscribe to project releases’.

Smart move by GitLab; through ActivityPub they’re getting a distributed version of GitHub’s social layer.

Saw some asshole griping about people promoting for sale things they make here on Mastodon.

So I blocked his stupid ass instead.

Look. Some folks lost their ENTIRE LIVELIHOOD when Twitter went tits up.

Save the arguments about building on other people's platforms for another time. Because for many, this is immediate, desperate, and is the difference between eating this week or not.

Don't be a dick.

We need a better model for how we create the future than just idiots trying to make money.

Meta is accused of sharing users’ personal data with third parties without their consent, but to get a chunk of the settlement money, you need to submit a claim.

"'We do not share SAT scores or GPAs with Facebook or TikTok, and any other third parties using pixel or cookies,” said a College Board spokesperson. 'In fact, we do not send any [PII] through our pixels on the site....'

After receiving this comment, Gizmodo shared a screenshot of the College Board sending GPAs and SAT scores to TikTok using a pixel. The spokesperson then acknowledged that the College Board’s website actually does share this data."

Ransomware Wipes Out Data Access for 'Majority' of Danish company CloudNordic's Customers

The company has to essentially start over and rebuild its systems. 'I don't expect that there will be any customers left with us when this is over,' an exec says.

Lesson, don't rely entirely on someone else's computer to store all of your data. Have your own backups...

Noble gasses are just peasant gasses that went to private schools.

“A catastrophic die-off of emperor penguin chicks has been observed in the #antarctic with up to 10K young birds estimated to have been killed.

“The sea-ice underneath the chicks melted & broke apart before they could develop the waterproof feathers needed to swim in the ocean.

“The birds most likely drowned or froze to death.”

A new expose on Elon Musk in The New Yorker details how Musk held Starlink hostage for $400M from the US, blocked off access to Ukrainian forces on the offensive, and even spoke with Putin personally, to the horror of Western officials.

Now i'm wondering if he lost that title because he left the fan club, or someone younger joined.

X/Twitter used to be a nice tool to interact with colleagues and beyond. It also provided interesting information for my research.

That being said, I have had enough of the latest changes as well as of its owner and have closed my account.

Sorry to leave my 4100 followers but looking forward to contribute to a new community on Mastodon.

Immunodeficiency in humans is not good.

Wearing masks, improving ventilation, avoiding crowds and getting fully vaccinated and boosted can help avoid it and keep your immune system healthier.

Sunak’s despicable, but the bigger problem is that Westminster itself is riddled with corruption.

Fix the system. Prosecute criminals.

And Scotland will be choosing independence.
