Tech is NOT neutral nor apolitical…just a bunch of mediocre, unremarkable white tech dude who’re too lazy and ill-equipped to do the REAL WORK despite being lauded, as the most innovative, geniuses “of our generation”

Unlike some parents floored by the news, high school teacher Mike Wadden wasn't shocked to learn this week that the province was still short more than 8,500 teachers, just days before heading back to class.

As a society, we're so focused on the short term. But is this wrecking the environment?

Do we need to think more long term?

I've been seeing a big uptick in the far left, anarchist group on mastadon, especially with the message "Democrats are the exact same as Republicans, don't vote for either". It's transparent.

Call these bad actors out. Do not let that message by unchecked.

So how much do content creators get from Onlyfans?

And their Mars mission cost $74 million bucks. Not a typo!

And look at the scientists in their mission control room. Just look at it!

We can have space without space billionaires.

Putting all our eggs in the Elon basket is a choice, and not a good one.

In 1995, 14 wolves were released in Yellowstone National Park.

No one expected the miracle that the wolves would bring.

It started with the wolves hunting the deer, this led to a rapid decrease in the deer population. The wolves' presence also made the deer avoid parts in the park where they were and easy prey.

Thanks to the deer's absence, those parts started to regenerate. Forests of aspen and willow trees started to flourish.

That's when things really started to happen. With trees and bushes came more berries and bugs. As soon as that happened, various bird species started moving in.

With the increasing tree population, also another species was attracted. The beaver, previously extinct in the region, moved back. And the dams they built provided habitats for otters, muskrats and reptiles.

The wolves also killed coyotes, which meant more hawks, red foxes, badgers and weasels in the park. Even the population of bald eagles and ravens rose.

But here's where it gets really interesting. The wolves changed the behavior of the rivers. With more balance between predator and prey came the possibility for other species to thrive. There was less erosion because of increased vegetation. And the river banks were stabilized, the channels narrowed, more pools formed, and the rivers stayed more fixed in their courses.

So the wolves did not only transform the great ecosystem of Yellowstone, they also changed the park's physical geography.

For younger kids, a good introduction to the legacy of Katherine Johnson (and Mary Jackson, Dorothy Vaughn, and Christine Darden) is the beautifully written and illustrated adaptation of “Hidden Figures” by Margot Shetterly and Laura Freeman.

A while back an elder told me a story from his #Indigenous Nimiipuu heritage, about Coyote killing a monster and flinging the monster's body parts in many directions.

Wherever the parts landed, people sprouted up, and became the various plateau tribes. The site of the killing, where Coyote stood with the monster’s heart, became the birthplace of the Nimiipuu people.

As Oracle employees review TikTok’s code to see if they’re spying for the Chinese government, they do so while watched by cameras recording for TikTok upon request of the Chinese government.

This is basically a puzzle that’s solved itself. 😂

For years, the media built up Elon Musk and got the public to buy into the myth of his genius. Now the truth of who he is can’t be hidden and changing how they cover Musk isn’t enough.

The media failed us. They not only need to inform the public about the harms of Musk’s empire, but change how they cover the entire tech industry so another grifter can’t replicate his rise. They owe us nothing less.

And so it came to pass that evening, that our school ball turned into one of the first ever Whitesnake gigs, with Coverdale resplendent in full leathers playing the rock god in front of a bunch of rather overdressed & politely clapping 17 & 18 year olds 🙂🤘

Not that we didn’t love rock, many of us – I’d gone to my first ever gig a year earlier, to see Yes at the Empire Pool Wembley.

But it was all rather incongruous nevertheless 🤷‍♂️

In 1978, we had a sixth form ball at the school, a fairly staid, conservative affair normally, with the boys in jackets and ties & the girls in dresses. A very Home Counties grammar school thing.

To liven things up a bit, Andy had invited his friend Bernie to play at the ball. Bernie had just formed Whitesnake and asked a couple of his new band mates to come & back him.

Sad news that guitarist Bernie Marsden has died.

Our paths crossed briefly in 1978, the year that Whitesnake, the band he’s most closely associated with, formed.

A short thread.
