A start-up packaging company combines fungi with organic waste to grow and create compostable packaging.

Organic waste and mycelium is grown for 7 days in a mold and the final product is able to be used in place of traditional materials such as polystyrene.

After use, the packaging can be composted in the garden.

Let's do this now! 🍄

@helicswalt Thank you a lot, I use #orgmode tables for putting my students'
qualifications with a weight for each test/exam (in the first line) and I usually do
$13=@1$3*$3+@1$4*$4+@1$5*$5+@1$6*$6+@1$7*$7... I have tried using
parenthesis as you example,
and I have seen that something like $6=vsum((@1$3..@1$5)*($3..$5)) works as
I wanted. Now my tables (and life) are going to be a lot simpler :-).

Pioneering geologist & oceanographer Marie Tharp changed our understanding of the ocean.

When Tharp sought a geology job at Columbia University in 1948, women couldn’t go on research ships. Instead, she was hired to assist male grad students.

Back then, many scientists still assumed the bottom of the ocean was featureless. Tharp figured out how to use data to create sketches of the ocean floor. Her hand-drawn maps helped develop plate tectonic theory. https://theconversation.com/marie-tharp-pioneered-mapping-the-bottom-of-the-ocean-6-decades-ago-scientists-are-still-learning-about-earths-last-frontier-142451 #science #history

my biggest criticism about the original Star Wars is that they called it a "Death Star". any evil imperialist organization worth its salt would hire a consulting firm to come up with something like "Liberation Sphere"

American Crow.

Charlie and I were sitting in the backyard taking pictures of birds, about 30 minutes ago, when this crow flew by and landed near the top of a tall pine tree to the east. So, of course, I took some pictures. I generally have trouble with crows especially at a distance, and this photo is no different. For some reason birds that are all black are difficult. But the setting is good, and you can see the bird's eye which is a plus.

"American Crows congregate in large numbers in winter to sleep in communal roosts. These roosts can be of a few hundred up to two million crows. Some roosts have been forming in the same general area for well over 100 years. In the last few decades, some of these roosts have moved into urban areas where the noise and mess cause conflicts with people." - allaboutbirds.org

JOURNALISM 101 RULE: If someone says it’s raining, and another person says it’s dry, it’s not your job to quote them both. Your job is to look out of the fucking window and find out which is true. — Now more than ever.

@zleap It's a huge bureaucracy. I don't know who is responsible for that unfortunate rule but the hospital itself answers to a local health board.

You're not going to want to miss this one.

End of January. 🐣 That means it’s time for Easter eggs in the supermarket. 🙄

When you earn a PhD in Finland, they award you a Doctoral Sword. I really picked the wrong country to study in.

Told my kids I like Mastodon and they asked if it's a dinosaur or a power ranger.
