New albums don’t get much bigger than this. Next month, The Rolling Stones will release “Hackney Diamonds,” the band’s first album of original songs since 2005. Pitchford provides an early look, including which stars joined the band in recording and the meaning behind the album title: flip.it/4mNsAB

Texas had a $30B budget surplus last year, but chose to give much of it to fossil fuel producers to build more gas power plants.

Meanwhile, it's 104F today and some Austin schools don't have air conditioning.

The priorities of the Texas state government are clear: billionaires need even more money to stack on top of all their other money, no matter how many Texas children have to suffer.

I've signed an agreement to write a book about ActivityPub for O'Reilly Media. The book should be available sometime after summer 2024.

Blog post here: evanp.me/2023/09/07/activitypu

My blog at personaljournal.ca/paulsutton is currently showing a 502 : bad gateway error message.

I have contacted the admin of the instance to see if the issue can be fixed.,

This is all I can do. So if anyone is following my blog either directly or from here, this message is just to say I am trying to sort this out.

Hope this helps

Paul

Eventually, if you post enough about your nerdy obsessions, people will start pinging you with news and developments in that area, and I (completely unironically) think that's beautiful

"Elon Musk secretly ordered his engineers to turn off his company’s Starlink satellite communications network near the Crimean coast last year to disrupt a Ukrainian sneak attack on the Russian naval fleet...”

"As Ukrainian submarine drones strapped with explosives approached the Russian fleet, they “lost connectivity and washed ashore harmlessly,” Isaacson writes."

@flexghost
Musk is a terrorist.

He is not running for office HOWEVER he is giving aid or comfort to the enemies of the United States

This is a testament to just how hard cybersecurity is. Microsoft had the forethought to not store keys into crash dumps, had the forethought to build a secondary system to double check them, had the forethought to store them on an isolated network, but a cascading failure basically blitzed through all their security controls and allowed nation/state hackers to walk off with critical signing keys.

Still think we're exaggerating? Behold the right wing's latest genocidal plan for America

I don't like talking about bad news, I'd much rather shitpost. But I feel like everyone should know that the Heritage Foundation along with 50 other big money think tanks have come up with a detailed plan "Project 2025" whose explicit goal is to expand presidential power in order to, among other things, imprison LGBTQIA+ people, and eliminate us not only from the internet but from public life altogether.

THIS IS GENOCIDE.

SAY IT.

I agree. I have some people in real life who can have those deep and profound conversations. This is the only reason I miss the birdsite. When I was kicked off for insulting Musk, I lost touch with a few connections with whom I could have such open online conversations. I haven't found that here, and sadly, I doubt I will.

If you're in the #UK , the petition to require #train companies to keep ticket offices and staff at #railway stations only needs another 3,500 signatures to force a parliamentary debate, so please sign if you haven't already.

It's a really important #accessibility issue, and the closures are opposed by the RMT (National #Union of Rail, Maritime and Transport Workers).

More than 4,000 years ago, a dog left his (or her) front paw marks on this clay brick while it was lying out to dry.

Brick was used in construction of the Great Ziggurat of the moon god Nanna at the ancient Sumerian city of Ur.

Whoa, why do I find this unnerving.

Scientists grow whole model of human embryo, without sperm, egg, or womb!

Can anyone tell me, why does the central region of this #JWST image of the Ring Nebula look like a pair of red lips, as opposed to the blue ocean it looks like in other images, such as from Hubble. This is a MIRI image.
