Building an open alternative to Bandcamp
So, as I alluded to yesterday, I've been chatting with folks about the current state of affairs regarding Bandcamp's acquisition and, most recently, massive layoffs. While it's been a good platform for a lot of independent musicians for a number of years, I don't trust the motivations of the new ownership to continue to operate the platform in a way that benefits those same independent musicians, and I don't believe going to yet another corporate-owned-and-operated silo is in anyone's best interests.

Israeli air forces have struck the Al-Ahli Arabi Baptist Hospital in the centre of Gaza City.
The #Gaza health ministry said at least 500 people have been killed.
I just.... can't comprehend how they can get away with this. Israel has military superiority, political superiority, they control the food, the water, the medicine going into Gaza. People in Gaza are defenseless and on their knees!
And what do you do, Israel? You fucking bomb their hospitals.
This is genocide.
Scientists lay out a sweeping roadmap for transitioning the US off fossil fuels
In a sweeping 637-page document, the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine made 80 recommendations for how the United States can justly and equitably pursue decarbonization policies. It includes recommendations for everything from establishing a carbon tax to phasing out subsidies for high-emissions animal agriculture and codifying environmental justice goals

@zleap The Middle East has a fascinating history. Like the House of Wisdom in Baghdad, gathering knowledge and part of the Translation movement that preserved Greek knowledge at a time my British ancestors were in a pretty dark period...The university system in Europe, and later the Renaissance, would have never arisen without that...
Its become very obvious that while the powers that be are pretending everything is status quo, that the vast majority of them have been playing the system to become rich off the backs of the citizens. They hide it, dole us out enough to keep us moderately happy, and become filthy rich themselves never intending to ever pay any taxes on that wealth. But they have full intention to find further ways to take us down for their benefit.
Money ruined everything AGAIN.
The wealthy are destroying the world for all of us.
about half of my colleagues at #Bandcamp just got laid off, after Epic Games sold us to Songtradr a few weeks ago

I do want to make sure you know that Jack Smith was brought from The Hague to deal with Trump for AG Garland. It took him several months to get here but once here, he has been Special Council. I have not forgotten that the person that Merrick Garland pulled in to deal with Trump wasnt conveniently available and already working here in the us: No, Jack Smith has been at The Hague. And Jack Smith has pulled in another that he also worked with from The Hague.

To each their own I guess.
But I would be amiss if I didn't remind you that Ubuntu Cinnamon or Debian with Cinnamon can easily be made to look identical to Mint Linux.
Best of luck.

"I am calling on the UK Government to take two urgent steps.
“Firstly, they should immediately begin work on the creation of a refugee resettlement scheme for those in Gaza who want to, and are able to, leave.
“And when they do so, Scotland is willing to be the first country in the UK to offer safety and sanctuary to those caught up in these terrible attacks.”

I was standing in line for the bakery here in Mlini, Croatia just now and an elderly gentleman at the counter turned to hand me a still-warm marmalade donut.
The bakery owner translated that he'd said that he wanted to do a kind thing for a stranger today and hoped I'd enjoy.
I'm totally beaming😁
As Israel prepares to flatten Gaza, the possibility of peace and an end to the Occupation seems farther away than ever. We speak with a panel of Israelis about the events of the past week and the potential futures for Israel and Palestine.
