"A 91-year-old man honored by Israel for saving a Jewish life during the Nazi Holocaust has returned his medal in protest of the Gaza assault. Henk Zanoli was given Israel’s Righteous Among the Nations award for his actions under Nazi occupation in Amsterdam. In 1943, Zanoli smuggled out a Jewish boy and helped hide him in his home for two years, despite Nazi suspicion he and his family backed the resistance.

Occasionally, I think about the 1993 World Trade Center terrorist bombing, which was shocking and horrific in itself, and how no countries were bombed in retaliation. The conspirators were arrested, tried, and sent to prison.

That's what I expected to happen after 9/11. Instead, Bush, Cheney, and the New American Century people encouraged Americans to be their worst selves for the sake of their own political, financial, and imperial ambitions.

This is a war crime. This is intentional genocide. This is an attempt to destroy Palestine as an idea, a dream, a possibility. This is mass murder and ethnic cleansing, being done in our name, using our resources.

As we watched the departure, we were lucky to have beautiful night views from the comfort of our balcony. First was the Lower Manhattan skyline and as we turned in the New York Harbor there was the Statue of Liberty with a partial NJ skyline behind her.
