@kev I have a 70-year old Omega that I paid to get serviced a couple of years ago. The repairman was able to source original replacement parts.

Not sure he’d have been so successful with an Apple Watch 2

“International law has been laid waste in Palestine this month. The United Nations stands in ignominy as founding states abandon its purpose and vote for war, or abstain on efforts for peace.”

I'm really hoping The Beatles' "last song" (released later today) is actually good. "Real Love" and "Free as a Bird" were sub-standard, and the grotesque production by Jeff Lynne (while George Martin was still alive FFS!) made them sludgey and turgid - the antithesis of Beatles.

Gaza is subject to occupation. Gaza is a subject territory. It is the world’s largest concentration camp, and the fact that the Egyptian military dictatorship helps the Israeli state guard the fence line is not the proof otherwise that so many people seem to assume.

Israel controls Gaza’s land borders; its airspace and air access; its sea access; its fuel, food, water, electricity, and medicine access; and its customs revenue.

Israel not only controls Gaza’s border itself but established a buffer zone within Gaza that Palestinians cannot enter. In 2018, when Palestinians attempted to protest peacefully, Israeli forces shot more than 13,000 people.

Israeli forces could do this because, like any prison, Israel can deploy forces into it to kill Palestinians at will, and does so annually—shooting and bombing anyone it pleases.

Gaza is a prison and it’s absolutely under Israeli occupation. It is a duplicate of the Bantustans that the apartheid South African government created in order to pretend that Black South Africans were actually citizens of separate countries, to excuse their lack of political rights.

As with the Bantustans, the farce is so obvious that the only people who could defend them were either absolute fools or true believers in apartheid.

Martin Kettle on the wider lesson(s) of the #CovidInquiry:

'The problem is not whether Britain’s civil servants or politicians are up to the task of dealing with the challenges of the 21st century.... [but] that one of the great lessons of the Covid pandemic is that the British state was not up to the job'!

The decline of the capacity to govern is a key aspect in the decline of the UK both on its own merits & as a state with international ambitions or influence

Thanks to decisions made by Elon Musk and others, the internet is becoming unknowable - it can't be studied, can't be reported on, and it's very bad news for democracy. I was tripping with my friend and his car inside the forest, up in the mountain. Suddenly this group of motorcyclists doing motocross. I quickly got the camera out and took this amazing photo. It isn't perfect, but it is awesome.

This is going to be unpopular.

I keep seeing people say they're shocked how anti-Indigenous Australia is, and when I go look at their profiles they all have "leftist" written.

You all need to understand what this means for how your leftism is tied in to white supremacy.

If you're shocked to find out that a colonised country is racist, you haven't been listening.

If your leftist selves haven't been listening to Indigenous people on this Stolen Land, you're leaning into white supremacy.

This morning's sunrise was worth getting up for. It was fantastic. I also found a place on Lake Superior near my house that I haven't spent much time photographing. I found a bunch of new compositions and features to photograph during the next month while the sun is aligned correctly.
