This isn't a publicly-traded company trying to maximize short-term gains for stockholders. It has to make sure it can continue to do what it does with the little it has.
More importantly, none of the layoffs affected the Firefox team. It was all VPN and 3D Hubs and mastodon staff that they axed, which is probably a good thing, so they can refocus on the browser.
@LouisIngenthron Strange then, cos the person I re-tooted was an iOS dev who was axed. Not saying it couldn't have been a masto iOS app he was working on. Still...
@jann According to his profile, he worked in the mozilla.social division, so yes, the mastodon division that got axed.
@LouisIngenthron It would seem odd to lay off the people you are gonna need to implement any EU-related changes tho... hmmmm.
