@MichaelPorter @nicky @ottaross there is a protocol-level difference between editing and deleting/redrafting! They're both good options to have and understand. https://github.com/mastodon/mastodon/pull/16697 has a technical summary and the implementation details, but the short description is that an edit operation marks the fact of the edit and preserves the ability to visit prior versions of the edited posts, whereas a deletion does exactly what it says on the tin.

@gnomon @nicky @ottaross Ah, okay, that makes sense. So a constantly updated list of people like @ottaross is producing would best be handled by "edit."

Am I right in guessing that the edit function is not universally available? I know I used it at least once when I was still on mastodon.social, but I don't see it anymore, just delete and re-draft (on both the web interface and the iOS app Metatext).
