We Danes are a friendly and probably somewhat naïve people, at least when it comes to national security. Here's a great example from the documentary series #Skyggekrigen (The Shadow War) (https://www.dr.dk/drtv/serie/skyggekrigen_382298): most likely a Russian soldier, armed with a rifle, on a #Russian ship in Danish waters, some 40km off the coast of Sealand. What's he doing here? #Spying on critical infrastructure, it would seem. Who found out? A journalist. We're screwed. #espionage #denmark
@saustrup I must admit, I used to be one of the naïve ones, but no more. Russia obviously does not want good relations with Europe and never did. We seriously need to be able to defend our democracy, rule of law and independence.
Perhaps patrolling and monitoring the Baltic and Atlantic coasts of Europe should be a combined NATO operation. It seems like that would optimize the use of resources, improve intelligence sharing and response times, and not create inconsistencies and weak spots, nor limit a given patrol operation to territorial boundaries of a given country.
@pieist @mok0 Sounds like an excellent idea! :-)
