Make up Thanksgiving for us this Sunday might have to be modified, if I'm still testing COVID positive. Sigh.

@ai6yr Wow. From first symptoms to a clear test took me 8 days, which I thought was a little slow. But I'm almost 70 so I'm not as sprightly as I once was. :ablobgrimace:

@shuttersparks @ai6yr 8 to 10 days matches my experience. Paxlovid probably prolong it though because of the rebound.

@janakj @ai6yr I guess I'm on the average. I took no medications. Didn't stop working either.

@shuttersparks @ai6yr You had a mild case (as did I). AI6YR had a moderate case and so used the Pax, which works great, but in a curve-flattening way: it quickly mitigates symptoms, but draws out the time to full resolution.

@janakj @ai6yr It sure didn't feel mild. The first 18 hours were the worst with a raging fever and feeling the worst I'd ever felt in my life. I would much rather have not worked but it wasn't an option. Chef in a busy restaurant on Valentine's Day weekend.

@shuttersparks @ai6yr I’m sorry to have mischaracterized it, and glad you recovered quickly. (Also, sigh the essential job nature of restaurant roles.)

@janakj @ai6yr I see you understand. Most people don't understand the restaurant biz, and that's understandable. Lol.

@janakj @ai6yr I should add that I was 5 days into it when I had to work. So I was still throwing violently positive tests and felt half dead but was able to work.

@shuttersparks @ai6yr Yeah, inasmuch as I believe everyone is going to get this thing many times, and hopefully with diminishing severity over time, it's a true failure of society that we can't even give people time to rest when they are seriously ill.

@janakj @ai6yr It is. But it's really hard to fix in my case. We have people coming who've made reservations as much as a year in advance.

@shuttersparks @ai6yr Well, let's at least take solace in the fact that COVID doesn't transmit by contact or food.

(In general most people do not realize that respiratory viruses don't transmit by food. By all means you don't want cooks sneezing on food, but that's more about the other crap that comes out of your nose, not the virus. 😂)

@janakj @ai6yr Yeah, some people considered it irresponsible but no one at the restaurant did. Staff was fully informed. I was masked up in a big 3M N95. I spend most of my time at stoves and broiler under the fume extractor so my exhalations were being drawn up and blown out the roof. Lol. To our knowledge, nothing bad happened.

@shuttersparks @ai6yr Ugh. Fully masked and hot in a kitchen while feeling half-dead, though.

@janakj @ai6yr Hah. I look at stuff like that as a challenge. Old school self-discipline and all that.
