Why US tech journalists have such a hard time recognising #Mastodon & the concept it is based on as the next step in advancement seems to stem from something deeply rooted in US culture, something #SiliconValley is built on: Tech Hero Worship. They need someone to idolise, a captain at the helm, a saviour. They need & want a Steve Jobs, a Larry Page, #Bezos, and follow & enable the next best: #ElonMusk, #ElizabethHolmes, #SBF, the list is endless.
You can't interview a Github repo.
Noticed that since I write about so many different topics (#climate, #China, #Tibet, #Uyghurs, #HumanRights, #sustainability, #coops, #Japan, #SEAsia, #politics), often from an intersectional perspective...
I don't get mentioned on lists of "#journalists covering X"
I guess it's not a bad thing, but I've noticed that, often, reporting in silos is, IMO, a disservice to readers because it deprives them of important context.

Well then….Not sure who - if anyone - will read this, but I’ve just arrived here as a part of the great #TwitterMigration of 2022….I’m a comic artist, so very soon I’ll start sharing my work. anyhow, um….. 👋
#introductions >> Just got exiled by Mr. Musk, not for revealing the coordinates of his jet, but for merely linking to an aircraft tracker site generally. I'm a political journalist and columnist based in #Connecticut and #TheBerkshires
THIS IS VERY INTERESTING: “12 Ways to Reduce Cars In Cities” that have ALREADY WORKED, ranked by effectiveness, identified from nearly 800 research papers. Via @TheConversationUS. What do you think, Tweeps? In my experience, what works and doesn’t depends A LOT on the context and details of the specific case studies…

"From #UKnowUrBlackWhen to #BlackLivesMatter, how a loose online network became a pop culture juggernaut, an engine of #socialjustice, and a lens into the future," says Wired senior writer Jason Parham for a 3-part series on #BlackTwitter.

@toddtyrtle I'd say the best parts of the internet on on RSS feeds -- whether it's text publishing or podcasts. Though sometimes I do want to chime in... so Mastodon is good for that.
"Equivocation" is a great bit of rhetoric to understand -- particularly the "motte-and-bailley" version, which is everywhere.

Self-proclaimed free speech champ #ElonMusk is now banning the #Twitter accounts of the journalists who covered him. https://www.rollingstone.com/music/music-news/elon-musk-twitter-journalists-banned-1234648351/
@qkslvrwolf @amart But I did find RSS when I selected a random station from that list. On the Pittsburgh page, there is a link to RSS just underneath the Twitter widget.
@qkslvrwolf @amart I guess not. It looks like there are only 5 specific locations covered.

@Groovytasia @adamdavidson Musk will only ban the journalists who irritate him (and his sponsors/buddies)
@amart @qkslvrwolf Do you know if RSS feeds could be used as the source rather that Twitter accounts?

When someone is not honest, thin-skinned, lacks empathy, and is completely self-interested, the wise course is to distance oneself from his reach. This is especially true where he regularly disposes of or betrays people who annoy or impede him in his personal life. Don’t psychoanalyze. Don’t ogle at the hypocrisy. Just get away.
The private jet tracking account @elonjet being banned from Twitter reminds me of Christian Fuchs' alternative, socialist concept of privacy:
"Whereas today we mainly find surveillance of the poor and of citizens who are not capital owners, a socialist privacy concept focuses on surveillance of capital and the rich in order to increase transparency"
Fuchs, "Towards an alternative concept of privacy" Journal of Information, Communication and Ethics in Society, 2011
