BREAKING: Donald Trump, who tried to overthrow the results of the 2020 presidential election and inspired a deadly riot at the Capitol in a desperate attempt to keep himself in power, has filed to run for president again in 2024. https://n.pr/3THqnJM
As children’s hospitals fill up with respiratory virus patients and we head into winter, a handful of Senate Dems — Schumer, Rosen, Shaheen, Murphy, Kaine, Warner, Klobuchar, Cortez Masto, Sinema, Manchin, Tester, and Hickenlooper — voted with Republicans to end the COVID emergency. It won’t end the pandemic, but it will kick as many as 15 million Americans off Medicaid and the Children's Health Insurance Program, slash food benefits, and make tracking and combatting the virus more difficult.
Biden says he will veto. But it’s laying the foundation for ending the pandemic emergency, which has been floated for the new year.

These comments from
the White House COVID-19 Response Coordinator completely dismiss health equity.
Only 10% have gotten the updated booster, pediatric hospitals are full, and there's unmitigated high COVID spread.
No public health protections mean that high risk people can't access medical care, public transport and other essential needs.

When someone like me, who has worked for 20 years in extremely busy emergency departments, says that we have never seen this many sick patients with viral infections before, please listen. This tsunami of illness is NOT typical and is the worst I have ever experienced.

Dear @AshishKJha46@twitter.com 👇
Don't you dare ignore this.
Our health care workers and systems have already been pushed past the breaking point.
There is still a #COVID19 pandemic compounded by record flu and RSV hospitalizations.

#epidemiology, #epiverse no matter to me, just want to build an inclusive, equitable community together. Just don't call me late for dinner.
Infection is not inevitable. We mitigate hard and decrease our individual risk by implementing every tool.
Please do everything. Please.

So this just happened.
Spoke with my neighbors for the first time in 1.5 years. I spoke with them briefly last spring. Turns out they've had Covid 2-3 more times since then.
They told me that each infection was worse, and described the last one as really deep and scary.
New Yorkers: Leaders and the media have stopped updating us, but you should know that 4 out of 5 of NYC's boroughs are currently at high #COVID "Community Levels."
According to CDC guidelines, this means *everyone* should be masking indoors and on public transit. #BringBackMasks
Yes, vaccines, but let's not stop there. Air quality, masks, not exposing others when ill, thinking twice before gathering with large crowds indoors, these have worked for us before. We should not *again* count on pharma tools exclusively.
I find myself in the same position I was in during the early days of the birdsite, wondering what to post. Don’t want to be political or polemical in these early days, but mustn’t be too bland either. Not going to show you the scones I baked, share my latte art or describe my sourdough starter. Nor should I plug my current productions just yet. Easy enough to know what we don’t want Mastodon to be …
… anyway, that’s my current thinking

And polls consistently show white people are far less likely to wear masks than people of color.
Poll from Oct: Have worn a mask at least some of the time in the past seven days:
White 39%
Black 77%
Hispanic 63%

White people who are claiming "this is a reach," Asian people, have been violently attacked in Western countries for wearing masks. Western leaders have said that "wearing masks isn't in our culture." A lot of anti-mask sentiment is deeply embedded in white supremacy.
