Happy new year! CA drivers: starting today you must change lanes to pass a cyclist.

When people travel to the past, they worry about radically changing the present by doing something small.

Few people think that they can radically change the future by doing something small in the present.

This is the only real time travel paradox.

A reminder to those who, like me, forget it every time: the #RoseParade is not held on Sundays. When New Year's Day falls on a Sunday, the parade rolls over to Monday. So don't be like me one time and be confused and upset at 8am Sunday (Pacific time) when there's no parade.

my new years resolution is to convince the unicode committee to add the lolsob emoji to the standard

It’s Schadenfriday, so I pretty much had to write about Andrew Tate. But to many who didn’t know much about him until recently, there’s quite a lot to unpack. We can all breathe a little easier knowing he’s finally facing serious legal consequences. I explain in today’s piece.

Presenting the Champlain Ice Scarf: #climate #knitting. The white rows are years when Lake Champlain (#vermont) froze over. The blue rows are years when it did not. Data are from 1800 through 2021. Guess which end is 1820.

Hi, I am brand new to Mastodon. As a way of introduction, I live in upper New York State near the Canadian border. RP is what took my sight. I love technology and helping others by sharing what I know. I look forward to getting to know everybody! #Introductions #Blind #NewYork

@smartwatermelon Oh, that’s awesome! I know quite a few states have incentives, too. Not sure if there is anything in the Inflation Reduction Act for home chargers.

@smartwatermelon That will give you enough time to hire an electrician and get a Level 2 charger installed in your garage. :-)

Republicans now warning that releasing Trump’s tax returns could mean releasing Supreme Court justices’ tax returns.

Exactly. For example, Americans deserve to know who paid off Brett Kavanaugh’s $92,000 country club balance, $200,000 in credit card debt, and $1,200,000 mortgage.

Wanted: a true #lancashire accent!

My daughter's undergraduate linguistics project needs a recording of a person who was born in #lancashire and who has lived there throughout their life, so their vowels are unsullied by southern tones.

All that's required is a short recording of a word list.

The project is an analysis of the effect on vowel sound on people who are brought up in one part of the UK and later move elsewhere.

If you can help, please DM or reply. Otherwise pls boost Thanks!

The DeSantis administration was sued for failing to release official records relating to its infamous migrant flight to Martha’s Vineyard. Then it dumped the documents right before Christmas, hoping no one would notice. But we noticed. I’m doing my part to amplify this story.
