users, is there a special shortcut or better way to get to the post toot button besides flicking left from the bottom strip?

Every time some new church leader comes in and talks a big game about how we've got to make big changes and those who don't like it need to get out of the way, I feel like a Twitter engineer getting an email from Elon Musk.

Hi I'm a software engineer working at an American space company called Momentus.

Sorry for using Qoto to post twitter screencaps that I found on Facebook :D

Given Twitter's seemingly bright prospects, I decided to get on here and give it a try. I was wondering if there's any good tutorial/explainer video on how best to use this space and something that covers all aspects of it?

Also, is there any quick way to find people I already follow on Twitter and follow them here as well?

it's impossible to change radio button values on intances.social with JAWS. Not sure what that's all about.

I don't have strong opinions on Musk, but there's a scene from Werner Herzog's documentary Lo and Behold where, after interviewing people who advocate working on Earth before trying to go to Mars, he cuts to Musk saying: "I don't remember my dreams, I only remember my nightmares" followed by a long awkward silence where Musk looks away uncomfortably. Clearly a result of some creative editing intended to make a point, but (and maybe because of that) I remember finding this very funny.

is hard sometimes.
Hoping the crew can take down the KTOO Juneau antenna tomorrow and inspect and maybe dry it out. Thank goodness for a small backup.

If your brand has multiple full time employees, strongly consider setting up an official mastodon instance for your brand accounts and official communications instead of joining someone else's.

This isn't Twitter, and you don't have to live in someone else's garden. It might seem easier to take advantage of someone else footing the bill, but what happens if they decide to stop hosting the server? Or if they change policies in a way that conflicts with your brand? Better to control it yourself.

This is a great one, and related to finding new friends here in the fediverse:

"Furthermore, you should recollect your good friends: ‘I’m fortunate, so very fortunate, to have good friends who advise and instruct me out of kindness and compassion.’ In this way you should establish mindfulness internally based on good friends."

My father's no longer with us.
But looking back there's a few things he was always very keen on.

- Don't make a mess, waste or break stuff.
- Don't hurt other people, or nature.
- Tell the truth.
- Take responsibility for your actions.

I've been thinking a lot about those lately.

Here's a comment for incoming Twitter users: I've found that some are really put off by the way Mastodon requires push and pull to get to information. Rather than Elmo telling you what to read (and steering you to most incendiary content), you have to go look for it and choose to consume it. Most notably, I've come to think of "Content Warnings" as instead subject lines, just like you'd use in an email, so readers can scan whether they want to read further.

The Wichita zoo had to deliver a chimpanzee via c-section, and the woman who did it also delivered my second child and I think that's so cool. Also, look at this cute baby ape!

my hope would be that losing that crutch will push many of us past a broadcast model and more into a dynamic community-of-acquaintances model that can ebb and flow more freely to sustain conversation (serious, or extremely dumb, I love both) within groups that have higher odds of coming at things with good faith. Social media should be a house party, not The Postman.
