The 3,270-year-old Hove amber cup, found in 1856 in Hove, England. It's made of a single piece of amber from northern Europe, suggesting trade links between England and the Baltic even that long ago.

People grumbling that #Mastodon is slow at the moment... You just turned up with 1 million people in a tiny, rural village and you're complaining there's a queue to get into the only tearoom, which is run by gay pensioners Babs & Maureen as a retirement hobby on Mons-Weds. Relax!

Mastodon existed before droves of people flocked here seeking solace or new territory. In a sense, we’re colonizing it and if we don’t bring an attitude of #humility, #kindness, and #love, we will set this place on fire too.

There’s plenty of darkness on display in the world. I want to do my part not to perpetuate it. (2/2)

Can anyone tell me why in the UK foxes are such a common urban sight, but in the Netherlands you hardly see them in the city?

The amount of green and the amount of trash between Amsterdam and London seem to be the same. And there are plenty of foxes in the Dutch country side. Why not in the city?

From jstor.org: Walking Streetlamps for Hire in Seventeenth-Century London.

"Much in the same way we hail cabs in cities today, a medieval Londoner could hail a torch-bearer (a link-boy) to light their way home from a night on the town."

“Nothing living should ever be treated with contempt. Whatever it is that lives, a man, a tree, or a bird, should be touched gently, because the time is short. Civilization is another word for respect for life...”

I'm reading about the collapse of complex societies and going back and forth between books and google because there is so much I don't know about the historical people in these books. Also, and I imagine this will offend some, I think that actually throwing money at space travel and fantasizing about living on other planets right now is sort of like fiddling while Rome burns. Don't you think so? Oh well, I guess we all have to occupy ourselves in some way while we wait for disaster.

Parole makes me lazy and unwilling to think. Cause there's someone who has already done their studies and summarized the conclusion out. As I am reading them, all I have to do is memorize the sentences. And the process makes all words lose their meaning.

Watching Twitter implode, decided to try out the mastodon hype. So far so good. Hope all those with jobs in flux from poor leadership over there land on their feet soon!

They don't alter their views to fit the facts.
They alter the facts to fit their views.
Which can be uncomfortable . . .
if you happen to be one of the facts that needs altering"

What they really mean when they say inflation is driving costs up is that rich people want more money, to pay you less, and to hoard it all to themselves. #facts

Is there a realm outside the mandala?

The Buddhist circle or sphere of influence, is particular to the three jewels. In the unformed and more realised spheres, the division between a mandala and for example a tariqa is non existent.

Is the Mandala a Hindu teaching?

Teachings associated with Brahmanic religions, use the idea of a wheel to organise realms of thought. In other systems a more hierarchical tree and branch or pyramid structure is used.

Can the mandala be used as a psychological tool?

Any system of division is a memetic way of illustrating opposing or potentially complimentary attributes. Superficial, new age and fad based pop psychology often finds a use amongst the crystals and tibetan singing bowls.
