Stochastic terrorism is "the public demonization of a person or group resulting in the incitement of a violent act, which is statistically probable but whose specifics cannot be predicted." Donald Trump has been using social media to blast prosecutors, judges, and witnesses, and his followers have answered with calls for violence. If the ex-president is a stochastic terrorist, what should we do in response? thinkbigpicture.substack.com/p

What's the big deal? It's only a speech.

@LevZadov @georgetakei What does this have to do with what I posted? If you're posting unrelated thoughts, you shouldn't use the reply button.

The best answer to bad speech is *not* more good speech. The best speeches ever made against what these men said didn't stop the killing of millions that heir own speeches caused. Fascism cannot be spoken away. Is that not self-evident?

@LevZadov @georgetakei Of course it can. That's why a historic number of people came out and voted for Joe Biden to prevent Trump from carrying on his plainly tyrannical path. It's what convinced the Allies to lay down their lives to put your example away. It's what created the documents that underlie, to this day, the very legal rights that help keep power in the hands of the people.

The idea you're invoking; that speech cannot solve a problem just because speech did not solve that problem once before; is fallacious. There are thousands of historical examples of speech averting mass tragedy.

@LouisIngenthron @georgetakei

It wasn't Chamberlain's blather at Munich words that stopped Hitler. It was bullets and bombs.

As for Biden, an endless succession of lesser evils will never create a just, equitable, and peaceful future.

I would prefer that thee office didn't exist and neither did political parties. Nobody is the always best candidate. Only direct democracy even *is* democracy. Anything less is a fraud and a sham.

A plurality of Americans reject party politics. Every time there's a presidential election, Nobody, wins hands down. Consider 2016. It was a landslide:
Drumpf: 25.5%
Killery: 25.6%
Nobody: 46.9%

@LevZadov I would prefer pigs fly.

Unfortunately, we live in the real world and things don't work like that.

Also, it's hilarious that you tried to slip 2016 numbers in because they support your argument better than the more recent 2020 numbers.

@LouisIngenthron
(1.) We're talking about Trump, aren't we? Correct me if that's wrong.
(2.) The so-called "real world" used to believe in the divine right of kings. Things change.
(3.) True justice is human equality. If you'd prefer that pigs fly rather than justice be done though the heavens fall, you and I have nothing further to discuss.

@LevZadov @georgetakei If you think speech has nothing to do with men's willingness to fight, I have a bridge to sell you.

@LouisIngenthron @georgetakei
The Greatest Generation didn't fight the fascists because Roosevelt called their action "infamous" or because Churchill said, "Never surrender." The fought because they were attacked. That's what mammals do.
