@slightlyoff In my experience, it's less because "they don't want to try very hard" and more because they set their budgets way below reality and then are shocked that nobody wants to work for peanuts.
Nice victory for the 1st Amendment, as a Florida court grants an injunction against Florida's censorious "Stop WOKE Act" https://www.thefire.org/research-learn/novoa-v-diaz-order-granting-motion-preliminary-injunction
@freemo A bit while loading media during peak US hours last night, but it wasn't too bad. Just took like 5-10 seconds or so.
@hasmis Fair enough. At least you have a valid excuse, unlike my Florida neighbors, lol.
@taz I wouldn't be so sure. Have you tried #GithubCopilot? It's pretty striking how much code is just simple patterns being slightly adapted. And if there's one thing AI is good at, it's pattern recognition.
@taz Right. My point is that #AI will be able to automate that away by filling those recipes with medium-quality code for a cheaper price.
I don't think #programming is any more immune to #automation of the workforce than any other industry.
@hasmis In November?
@chrishudsonjr You haven't heard of the Foo Fighters?
The fact that he was in an iconic nineties band and left it to found an iconic 2000s band that is still playing today is pretty modern.
Haha ex-Twitter employees have created their own Mastodon instance 😅

Welcome to the Fediverse! :)
@gpowerf Very true, but his petulant nature and childish tantrums make me really worried that he might someday hold a NASA launch until the President accept his demands to re-open a Twitter account or something.
@taz Seems unlikely. "Blue collar" implies a common job that can be done by anyone.
We're already fast-approaching the point where coding jobs that meet those requirements can be completed by AI (and, arguably, AI can already do it better than the lowest rung of current software developers).
The blue collar job of the future, imo, will be making informed decisions for mostly automated systems, on the occasions when they run into input anomalies.
@chrishudsonjr Dave Grohl. Hands down.
@jami @charlesdardaman @mmasnick Presumably. Consent was the biggest concern, if I understand properly.
@mmasnick Wait, do you want the algorithm for discoverability, or to dechaff your feed?
@charlesdardaman @mmasnick Someone tried to create a federation-wide search. The community backlash was so instantaneous and severe that they willingly abandoned the project.
It might just be worth acknowledging that such an algorithm is antithetical to this system.
