@joelmartinez It has to be a pull. If it was a push, then each server would need storage for "received" messages, and that seems unrealistic.

If you want an example of exactly how NOT to do content moderation issues, this is it:

This is one of the favorite tutorials I made, about motion blur.

@maxwell And if you think those people who hide behind anonymous crypto accounts with bios pressing all your empathy buttons are always who they say they are, then likewise.

Crypto

@maxwell If your artists refuse to use any mainstream payment methods, then yes, you should consider that a huge red flag for possible scams.
For all you know, they're passing others' art off as their own, and you're actually hurting the original artist by paying them.

Crypto

@maxwell And you wonder why people question the legitimacy of your transactions? Lol. Might as well be using Western Union to wire money to a Nigerian prince.

Crypto

@maxwell Not because it's digital art, no.

But when you involve the blockchain into it, it does lose legitimacy. You're just wasting extra energy and money for zero benefit, while lending legitimacy to a Ponzi scheme, encouraging others to lose out as well.

What benefit do you think you derive from buying art with crypto instead of through a service like PayPal or Venmo with regular old fiat currency?

Crypto

@maxwell Whereas I paid cash.

You got a receipt. I got a framed canvas covered in paint.

Enjoy your receipt.

Crypto

@maxwell Presumably, you haven't actually bought any art. Just tokens with links to art.

@trinsec Maybe. The only one I'm aware of is "Potion Craft: Alchemist Simulator", which has received generally positive reviews.

@trinsec Elevator pitch:
You run an apothecary. Experiment to discover new recipes for potions and salves. Engage in magic and summon otherworldly beings to expand and improve your business. Decide how much you're willing to sacrifice for success.

@joelmartinez Although, isn't it ironic that this post, with its image, will take up the same space as 100 text-only posts... just because I replied to it? 😆

Crypto

@trapse@mastodon.cloud @maxkennerly There is no theoretical value. It's literally only worth as much as someone is willing to pay for it. If nobody is willing to pay for it, then it's worth nothing.

It's like a beachfront house. It doesn't matter that housing prices are going up or that you paid $250K for it. If the ocean rises up and claims your property, then nobody will buy it and it therefore has no value.

Crypto

@trapse@mastodon.cloud @maxkennerly That may have been the initial investor set, but the last investor set at the bottom of the pyramid has been confused uncles of tech bros.

Crypto

@maxwell Regular money is still 100x better. I'd be willing to bet the vast majority of online artists would prefer to be paid in US Dollars instead of Ethereum.

The crypto art trade is just a money laundering machine. It's not for the actual buying of art.

Today is #LGBTQSTEMDay ! A day to celebrate all the LGBTQ+ people who work in or study science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. I’m proud to be a part of a worldwide community of amazing people doing amazing things!

@Pat It has more to do with the lockdowns as a result of COVID.

There's been a demonstrable decrease in driver quality since the lockdowns begin, for many small reasons that added up:
1) Some people didn't drive for a while while locking down and their skills atrophied.
2) Companies became desperate for delivery drivers, incentivizing those who might not otherwise drive to begin doing so for a job.
3) New drivers learned how to drive while traffic was heavily reduced, and are now being exposed to higher densities.

Then there's stuff like this:

@Pat Today I saw two separate cars driving in the oncoming traffic lane.

We need it.
