@markmccaughrean Ugh, bureaucracy. 🤦♂️
@markmccaughrean The Windows version isn't great either. Outlook is just vastly overrated in general.
Use Thunderbird instead. I've been on that for over a decade now.
@slightlyoff I'm not disagreeing with any of that. I totally agree with you on every point.
My (somewhat hyperbolic) point was: The reason this stuff proliferates is not necessarily because developers want a better experience, but rather because of what executives want. They hear "tools with better DX make developers' lives easier" and what they internalize is "tools with better DX make the job easier so I can hire cheaper engineers".
As an indie software engineering consultant, I know React only because the market demands it of me. I try to steer clients to better frameworks, but most already "know" what they want, end up making a huge mess with cheap labor, and have to call someone like me to clean it up.
We developers have shockingly little control over the market for our own tools.
@slightlyoff "Developer Experience" is a misleading term.
The reason DX-focused frameworks are so popular is the same reason that scripted customer service call centers are so popular: they allow the bigwigs to farm out formerly-highly-paid roles to cheap low-talent assembly-line hacks for pennies on the dollar.
If companies can buy a product once (or better yet, get it open-source for free!) and save on payroll and training costs forever, 99% of them will take that option every time.
User complaints about this will fall on the same deaf ears as user complaints about call centers. The mass market will always take the cheapest route.
But, the silver lining is that there will always exist a niche fringe trying something better. And sometimes, every once in a while, a fringe idea gains enough traction to break through to the mainstream and become a dinner-table-subject for the masses.
@brody Yes, you can. If I recall correctly, the HD Edition (2, 3, & PW) are available for digital download on the online stores of both PS & XB as backward-compatible editions from the previous generation of consoles.
Also, though, if you don't want to play it, someone turned the main games into movies on YouTube that capture and integrate the best elements of gameplay! So, that's a way to sort of "re-experience" it all in only a few hours instead of 20-40.
@tracyspcy I can't remember the last time I saw someone who wasn't a healthcare professional wear a mask.
The practice has been entirely abandoned in the state I live, as well as the five or so southern states I drove through last month.

The #MarsHelicopter and I are closer together than we’ve been in a while, and guess who I spotted resting on a dune between flights. Can you believe Ingenuity is gearing up for Flight #39? 🤯

Holy crap, George Santos finally discovered which line you have to cross to get Republicans to call for the resignation of one of their own.
Banning kids from watching kid-friendly drag shows by classifying them as "adult" is akin to banning kids from being seen to by a qualified nurse because there's so much nurse porn on the internet.
@brody In most cases I've seen, they don't actually require sign-in and work without authentication.
My guess as to why they do this:
1) It's relatively easy data to scrape
2) It allows you to provide more relevant data to the customer (i.e. what's in the packages)
3) It allows them to obfuscate certain elements. I.e., if you look at actual tracking, you'll see the label created a day before it was actually shipped, but on the vendor website, they combine those to make it look like it went out immediately.
4) What company doesn't like to have their branding slapped all over every customer interaction?
