So, my weekend project was trying to learn with the help of an . It's convinced me further that these models just aren't ready for production usage quite yet, but they're incredible for students, if you have enough generalized experience to be able to recognize when they're talking out their asses.

Still, felt like a better-than-90% accuracy rate and the ability to customize its answers and follow basic logic and context from question to question is really quite impressive. These models have already evolved far beyond what I thought their capabilities could be, and I look forward to seeing just how finely-tuned people can get them.

It's incredible that can build, configure, and launch multiple interconnected instances of in less time than it takes to compile zero C# scripts.

@ghostdisco91@mstdn.party Why? It's literally all around us at all times.

@mekkaokereke

Here is a good example. AP headline on the loss of rights by half of Florida’s citizens is “Abortion bans raise fears inside GOP about backlash in 2024”. Framing this as a weak rhetorical move rather than active oppression. Pretty consistent framing of these moves across the country. Rather than “GOP takes away more rights from citizens” it is “GOP appeals to base - will it improve their chances in 2024?”

Pathetic

@Pat Again, I disagree. I subscribe to the idea that CWs are "content wrappers", or essentially subject lines, and can be for things that trigger folks or simply about subjects some people prefer to avoid. For example, I know some people put wordle results behind CWs, which is nice because idgaf about wordle.

@Pat Disagree on the CW. While I agree that everyone should participate in democracy, I don't think they should be compelled to be involved 100% of the time. There are times I like to shut off the politics for a while and get some peace. CWs are a good way to facilitate that.

USPOL

It would be incredible if Trump remains as an albatross on the Republican party, forever dividing it between the extremists and institutionalists, splitting the vote and waning their power, a curse of their own making.

But such poetic justice exists only in the realm of fiction.

@trinsec Right? It takes 13 hours to drive from one end of this state to the other and they decided that any amber alert anywhere in the state should go to all 22 million residents. 🤦‍♂️

And, no, I just decided to get up, so I'm gonna be grumpy until I get a nap later, lol.

@jeffjarvis It's amazing how journalism companies continue to endlessly squander money on obvious crap and then complain about falling profits.

Was having a nice dream before the state of fucking Florida had to wake up the entire goddamn state before 6AM on a Saturday.

No, I'm not gonna catch that amber alert from 2.5 hours drive away from my bed, thanks.

@jerome As I said to him, that's useful for classroom assignments but not serious software engineering work. In the wild, nothing runs in isolation.

@TerribleMaps Oh come on. That's a shitpost, right? That can't be real. Even flat-earthers would laugh at that.

@samplereality Are teachers really not addressing this? That seems like a dereliction of duty. Back when I was in high school, Wikipedia was really taking off and all of our teachers warned us about using it for research because of the questionable accuracy of any mass edited information.

@greg No, I have explained what it is to you at least twice now, and you keep ignoring that to make your own assumptions.

At this point, I can only assume you're trolling me.

@greg Creating a function in a vacuum is not useful for any real-world programming outside of a classroom.

Also, please don't attempt to tell other people their intentions. It just makes you sound like an asshole.

I'm bound by professionalism, not pride. And it doesn't hold me back, it helps me excel.

I do experiment with these tools, but I won't haphazardly use them in production until their many issues have been resolved.

@greg Google and StackOverflow don't customize their answer to match my context.

If you're asking the conversational AI to work in a private code base, it will absolutely upload parts, if not all, of that codebase to customize the answers to match the codebase's style, format, and spec.

The minute you've enabled that plugin in your project, you're violating your clients' privacy.

@greg Then you might want to go back and review the terms of use for those services because they explicitly warn you about this!

🚀 Tech has literally got to the point where you can now use SDKs to talk to things in space!
