@mmasnick Gonna be so pissed if it's only money and they don't force some kind of retraction or statement out of Fox with this settlement.

Look, it's simple: If you think opening curly braces shouldn't be on a new line, then you just need to find a new line of work.

@mmasnick I actually thought you embedded porn into TechDirt by accident because TikTok's interface is so terrible that the default play button in the middle of the screen plays a video of a woman in a skin tight body suit making seductive comments instead of the bearded man giving a business interview that I expected.

I don't know how TikTok's algorithm thinks these are "related videos".

@drewharwell That describes pretty much every category of science.

We wouldn't have microwaves or penicillin if it weren't for people pushing boundaries for which they didn't know what lied on the other side.

Just got an running locally in a container as a microservice that I can now easily invoke from other programs... the possibilities are endless!

@annmlipton Wow, I thought that making sure people understood their rights and responsibilities under the law was *the main point* of concealed carry classes.

@ThinkingSapien I know why.

It's because they tend to be used by the sort of people who regularly interrupt others as a guard against getting interrupted themselves by filling in the brief auditory gap with more of their own voice.

@quotesofnote@zirk.us Yes, handgun deaths do dwarf rifle deaths considerably. But, as gun control advocates like to point out, that statistic does get much murkier when you switch the criteria from "all shootings" to only "mass shootings".

But you are 100% correct on every other count.

@natharari Is it any better when US companies do the exact same thing for profit instead of law?

@rlamacraft If you haven't already, check out C# 8. They built specific improvements for that very problem into the language itself.

And with .NET now fully moved over to core, it's now fully portable and cross-platform.

I'd continue, but this already sounds too much like an ad.

Based on a notification that quickly disappeared, it would seem someone popped in the replies to this post to prove me right.

It's weird how there's this dogma around AR-15s, even on the liberal side, that's so strong that people refuse to even consider facts that don't support their unfounded beliefs.

The number of people who have been irrevocably convinced that AR-15s somehow produce more deadly wounds than other firearms is getting disturbing.

Where did this rumor start from? Why would these people think those bullets are somehow more destructive when fired from a specific form factor of rifle?

I'm used to people who don't know about guns making shit up to justify their arguments, but this one is weirdly specific and pervasive.

@hardworkingamerican@union.place No, they're not. AR-15s are actually pretty expensive. You can get an AK-47 for half the price and that shoots bigger bullets that are usually made out of steel and can punch through several walls before stopping. Thank Russia's overproduction during the cold war for that surplus.

@maxkennerly Also, if a sitting justice on the supreme court can't figure out the financial disclosure laws that bind him, what does that say about the average American's ability to decipher tax law that binds them?

It's a weird time to be a rocket science fan. Because, on one hand, we're going back to the moon!

But on the other hand, fuck SpaceX and its owner.

It's like finding out the government is partnering up with Dr. Evil to give every citizen a free puppy. Sounds nice on the surface, but you just know there's something sinister going on.

@aosinski And all with no waiting or sass!

There were a few times I had to restrain myself from politely thanking it!

@bjsmith We don't. We just have to believe, as with most novel technologies, that the good can outweigh the bad, especially in the long run. "Quick and responsible adaptation" simply isn't in our species description. We're messy creatures.
