@koherecoWatchdog @itsOasus @mloxton There is already a system for this for when a school is in an impoverished area. It's called the "Community Eligibility Program", part of the National School Lunch Program. It allows an entire school to eat for free every day on the federal dime.
In schools that don't qualify for that, though, parents have to apply for free/reduced lunch individually, which can involve quite a bit of paperwork for someone struggling on welfare.
Many schools *do* choose to institute a "no-child-goes-hungry" rule (usually, they let the balance for those kids go negative, and the school settles up with the cafeteria provider at the end of the year), but unfortunately, you have some parents who take advantage of that and just never send money, even though they could. That leads some schools to rescind the policy.
It would be nice to have a federal law mandating free lunch, but good luck getting the American public to agree to pay for everyone's (even the rich kids') lunches on taxpayer dollars.
@trinsec You haven't seen the slit cut into the eyebrow as a fashion trend?
Seems like pretty much anyone under the age of 30 has one now, but it seems to be especially popular among Latin-Americans (which is maybe why I'm seeing it more, living in Florida).
@TruthSandwich I oppose Nazis. I just don't do so by sinking to their level like you do.
@TruthSandwich If a Nazi is actively trying to kill you, by all means, kill him first. That's justified.
But that's very different from "eradicating all evil people". That's proactive killing, aka murder, or even possibly genocide.
@TruthSandwich Yes, and I'd argue that makes you just as bad as them. Isn't their worst attribute their willingness to kill over a difference of ideology?
@TruthSandwich Okay, so then by my understanding of what you're saying, you're cool with murdering people at the whim of an arbitrary few.
By my book, you qualify as the very evil you seek to eradicate.
@TruthSandwich
1) Who is "we"?
2) Name one such method.
@TruthSandwich There are two big problems with that:
1) Who gets to decide who's "evil" enough?
2) There are virtually no methods to "eradicate" human beings that are not evil themselves.
@shoq That's insanely naïve and just makes everything easier for actual shooters.
@shoq But you're not advocating putting your body on the gears. You're putting other people's bodies on the gears.
That's the difference between sacrifice and terrorism.
@shoq Couple things about that:
1) If they're known to be false, schools will stop locking down.
2) Maybe they'll even stop locking down for real threats because of boy-who-called-wolf syndrome, making the next real mass shooting far deadlier than it otherwise would be.
3) If a school is locking down, whether they believe the threat or not, that means armed cops with twitchy trigger fingers will need to clear the school before it stops being locked down. How well do you trust their professionalism with guns? Especially in schools with higher minority populations?
If you really believed guns were as dangerous as you claim, you wouldn't sent a bunch of men armed with them into schools full of children as a means of achieving your goals.
@shoq No, I'm very clearly saying that doing nothing is better than killing people for your cause.
It's a clear line in the sand you should not cross.
@shoq It doesn't matter if your "mission is not to hurt anyone" if you're knowingly taking reckless action that is incredibly likely to hurt someone.
SWATting is a very serious offense and has caused numerous deaths. It is *not* a nonviolent protest method.
You're literally advocating dialing up the violence to draw attention to your pet issue. That's what terrorists do!
@gwynnion Yep, I'm a proponent of AI and I still agree with all three of those points.
@shoq Putting innocent lives in danger to advance your agenda isn't "civil disobedience". It's terrorism.
@tobi @HaruCoryne @ProPublica Yes, because most urban/suburban areas aren't designed for bikes, so living somewhere where biking is even an option is, to a small degree, "elitist".
Now, riding your bike to the bus and then riding the bus across town to work every day... that's how the "real" poor folks live.
@shoq That's... a terrible plan.
These false reports put real people in danger.
Trying to get innocent people shot by the police really undermines your "guns are bad" position.
