@mentallyalex I wish the actual translation of that verse was so ambiguous...
That... is... brilliant! Even if only to get them out of the regular lanes!
Well, that's interesting. Thanks #javascript 🙄
Code:
var d = new Date('2023-01-01');
alert((d.getMonth()+1)+'/'+ d.getFullYear());
Output:
12/2022
I mean, I'm pretty sure I get why (timezone offset?), but it's still very stupid.
@mmasnick Yeah, but using that option very much feels like giving up, lol.
Okay folks: this morning we're launching something we think is pretty useful. Lots of people have strong opinions on how content moderation should work, but they've never done it. So we built a content moderation mobile game (browser-based): https://moderatormayhem.engine.is/
Details about it are here: https://www.techdirt.com/2023/05/11/moderator-mayhem-a-mobile-game-to-see-how-well-you-can-handle-content-moderation/
@mmasnick Neat, but really not a fan of the time limit.
I get the point of it, but maybe it would be better to have a fixed number of cards for your shift, and then any time you get more context info, it grays out a card on the back of the deck that you'd no longer have time to get to.
That would better reinforce the theme of the game (hard decisions in limited time) without giving advantage to speed readers.
Also, the appeals interface is confusing. If I swipe right on an appeal, am I affirming the appeal, or am I affirming my previous decision? I assumed the former, but was never really sure...
@clacke @dangillmor @cobalt Hate to tell you this, but so can anyone who hears your verbal story. There's no DRM around a campfire.
@ThinkingSapien These ones don't squawk, but they do clomp around like toddlers at dawn...
@Soldierhobo@newsie.social @cobalt @dangillmor Sure. But I'd argue that the lazy people who generate the demand for the service are far more to blame than those who meet their demand by providing the service.
It doesn't matter if restauranteurs try to open fine dining establishments if people just ignore them for the fast food burger joint next door.
@cobalt @dangillmor Or you could just use Wikipedia or host whatever information you want on your own site.
People pretend like these companies hold some magical power, but the only power they truly have is that people choose to use their services, and that can always change.
@peterdrake It's also a prime market for an ML algo.
“President Biden just ushered in a new period of immense suffering for people already enduring violence and persecution," says Jonathan Blazer, director of border strategies at the ACLU. https://www.aclu.org/press-releases/aclu-comment-on-bidens-asylum-ban
@cathygellis If you add hors d'oeuvres, that sounds like a nice party.
After more than 11,000 migrants crossed the southern border on Tuesday, the Biden administration is now preparing a memo that will direct CBP to release migrants into the US without court dates or the ability to track them, reports NBC News. https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/biden-admin-plans-order-release-migrants-us-no-way-track-rcna83704
@w7voa Every nominee currently on the table, or every nominee forever?
@osc Okay, well, if they're genuinely being abusive, racist or not, then they should still be reported+banned.
But if they're just being their normal mute-able annoying, then why bring race into the discussion?
@evangreer I feel very comfortable dunking on Musk's E2E because of his track record of fucking things up. No doubt it'll be something like "Oh, yeah, we chose an algo with a known vulnerability because this Russian-sounding dude with a billion dollars offered us a cashflow injection to support it. I'm sure it won't be a problem!"
