Gendered languages are weird. Why are "day" and "night" different genders in #Spanish?
@mloxton The older I get, the more convinced I am that "publicly-traded companies" shouldn't exist.
Real business owners can weigh costs against benefits. But publicly-traded companies have to meet their fiduciary duty to their shareholders, which inevitably leads to situations like you describe.
@ben Except the whole reason we started producing it in the first place is because it uses byproducts of oil refining that we had previously considered waste (hence why plastic is so cheap and plentiful).
So, if we "reduce plastic production", that just means we'll be dumping its precursor chemicals, which is just as bad (or in some cases worse) for the environment.
Really, the only way to cut back on plastic production is to end our dependence on the entire category of petroleum products.
#Target presumably would have pulled menorahs and dreidels in the late 1930s too.
@Gert Replace "social media" with "dungeons & dragons" or "rock & roll music" and that language sounds very familiar.
@zleap Usually that means they want you to print it out and fill it out by hand (and then fax it to them, presumably).
It's also a big red flag that the company runs on arcane rules from the age of yore rather than logic or common sense.
What better way to start my presidential campaign than by co-hosting it with the world's current highest-profile failure?
Can we pass a law saying that if anyone objects to someone objecting to a book, then it can't be banned?
Oh, wait, we already did that. It's called the 1st Amendment. #1A
Sorry, Canada.
@ML2 That's pretty much what I ended up doing after I couldn't find anything anywhere else.
Nice! Local darling restaurant Hamburger Mary's is fighting the DeSantis nanny state.

@b0rk please tell me it comes with fold-out posters
@interfluidity Wait, do we not have a precedent? Didn't this happen for a few months less than a decade ago?
