@fishecon I'm calling bullshit. "Many college students complain about photo because it has a cigarette in it" doesn't pass the smell test. I think the admin made that up to cover their own asses and now the lie is getting out of their control.
@ThinkingSapien Is she trying to drive a train or something? This drug testing stuff is insane to me.
"Oh, no, if we detect even a little bit of marijuana, you're instantly fired. We refuse to allow our employees to be under the influence of drugs.
Say, care for a cup of this double-caf coffee? Also, the smoking patio is over there, and we're doing office karaoke at the bar Friday night; they have a two-drink minimum."
@BlueWaver22 Normalized or not, I don't think this gets anywhere close to the standard for criminal incitement. Democrats also commonly use the word "fight" to refer to electoral matches. Should they be arrested too?
@BlueWaver22 Which part of the quote do you believe is "calling for an uprising"?
I hate the guy as much as anyone else, but this just seems like his usual BS, not some kind of escalation.
Here's the above colorful panels, printed and assembled. I'm glad I tried this partial test before going for the full panel design. I learned a couple things that will inform the design of the rest.
1) Gonna make the holes smaller and use smaller hardware. Those screws are at least half of the weight of the panel.
2) Gonna do some 2x2 square screw brackets instead of the 4x1 long ones I started with.
3) The fitted edges work really well (look at the border between blue and green on the right above). The angled triangles help keep everything aligned. Where I don't have them, the build is far less cohesive.
4) I need to make the panel above the yoke hardware-free to ease in final construction. It should just be an easy pressure fit, which will allow me to place the yoke, remove it, and mount its bracket to the frame before replacing it... without having to disassemble half the panel.
5) I am never not surprised by how much smaller these end up in real life compared to my modelling program.
@TonyStark That... sounds likely to backfire. I can't imagine it'll get out much of the vote (we know national dems have abandoned us), and the usage of the co-opted term "woke" is just as likely to energize the opposition.
The only winning strategy in Florida right now is to get Fox News to run a Matlock marathon on election day.
@ceoln Correct, but the idea of the holy trinity is that the three entities (father, son, and holy spirit) are actually one and the same, so I can see why it'd get confused.
Also got a touchscreen hooked up to an Arduino and running on it. Refresh rate is a problem, though, even with certain techniques to improve it... The problem is that with a glass cockpit type program, pretty much the entire background can need to be refreshed at any given frame.
Next thing to try is generating graphics elsewhere and just pushing them through the USB cable.
Working on the panel now. It has to be designed in a way that it can be printed in my 3D printer, which is a bit smaller than 5"x10", and it has to be sturdy and easy to connect without slipping.
@blabberlicious @interfluidity Is bad art not art?
Also, those choices you listed... most are decided based on established standards for the goal (mood) that's being targeted. Cinematic lighting is especially formulaic. Is that not just pattern matching at its core? Even the great examples that buck these patterns do so in knowing defiance of the patterns, rather than ignorance of them.
@blabberlicious @interfluidity Yes, I'm a game developer myself. And, I agree, your character models and animation are examples of computers assisting humans.
But the final product? The rendered image with all of the algorithms working in perfect harmony in response to the user's input? That's a little less clear about who has the true agency in making that art. The entire concept of "emergent gameplay" really drives that home.
@interfluidity The text-based AIs are held back in that way, yes, but consider the image and music generating AIs.
@interfluidity I'd bet good money there were analogous movements along with every "job-stealing" technology.
@blabberlicious @interfluidity Sure, but that's been true at least as long as Pixar and the video game industry have existed.
@interfluidity It's because they're starting to bridge the gap between logic and art/emotion. We expect machines to excel at logic but fail at art (without serious help from humans). But now, whether they're truly creating/feeling or just assembling/simulating, the end result is a product that defies our expectations of what machines are capable of.
