If your holiday explosives are smaller than your hand, you may need to upgrade.

@freemo Anyone who's been to Bourbon Street can get behind that agenda.

@trinsec Don't think so. This is the image generator, so I'm pretty sure it's just using a dumb word filter, not pattern recognition.

Curious. Apparently Bing AI Image Creator allows "pistol" and "rifle" but does not allow "grenade" in prompts.

I will never understand the people who invent their own parking spots in a nowhere-near-full parking lot, blocking regular traffic, just so their car can be a few feet closer to the entrance.

Like, how pathetic do your parents have to have been to raise you with no understanding whatsoever of the concept of your actions affecting those around you?

Working on a topographic line renderer. This is after less than a day of work, so it still has a long way to go.

I see a lot of posts here saying “#Mastodon should do xyz if it wants to become mainstream/grow/appeal to more people”. Yes, lots of features could be made more intuitive or easier. But the reason it’s “behind” is also the intrinsic good at its core - Masto isn’t “competing” against anyone, it doesn’t have growth targets or marketing campaigns. No one is paying to buy your data here, there is no profit incentive to get people to join. Doing things the right way takes time #fediverse

Racists suing to end affirmative action actually ending legacy admissions instead would be *chef's kiss*

@sdm350 @Pat That one... actually kind of makes sense. That's a check to make sure you own the actual number and aren't just spoofing their caller ID.
But they should already know the number to text the code to if you're an existing customer.

@freemo I don't know how much we actually expect them to support democracy, but the least they could do is pay it some lip service, lol. That became a requirement when Trump took over and went blatantly authoritarian.

@freemo I'd take BIden over either of those. At least he's relatively predictable and is vocally supportive of democracy. That second one is my baseline requirement that the others fail to meet.

@freemo I can think of a few others... DeSantis and RFK Jr. are really bad too.

If you think sliding a magazine into a handgun looks satisfying, let me tell you a little bit about electric leaf blowers and their batteries...

@cadenza Well, sure, but that applies to everything in life, including college; what's your point?

LOL this is not how you deal with "data scraping," this is how you deal with a catastrophic loss of system capacity.

You limit data scraping by blocking things a human user couldn't do, like access a thousand posts a minute. This is aimed directly at reducing normal activity across the whole system.

@freemo The problem with that is that proving poverty is much more onerous than proving race. That adds paperwork hurdles that have to be jumped, usually not by the applicant themselves, but by their guardians. This phenomenon is responsible for some of the poorest families in our country failing to qualify for free student lunches for their kids.

Given that no system is perfect, requiring representation equal to the demographics of the overall population in our most critical institutions seems to be the best step forward we can reasonably expect at this time.

But also, on the other side of the equation, even the population of rich kid students shouldn't be homogenously white... it should apply to all, not just the scholarship crowd.
