@QueerInTheCountry If they're abusing their children, that's a crime they should be prosecuted for. But I don't think making a kid hold a sign counts as "child abuse".
More importantly, it doesn't matter if *you* conclude that intimidation is intended. You have to prove that *they* did what they did with the intent to intimidate someone into doing something.
Therefore, advocating for a change in the law is not, in any way, terrorism. In fact, it's democracy in action. And that's a good thing.
If the law did allow these people to be arrested because of their advocacy, history tells us that law wouldn't be used on them. It would be used on BLM marchers.
So, the answer to such repugnant speech is not to get the government to shut it down. The answer is to provide counter-speech and be more persuasive than the fascists.
Hey folks, I've seen a lot of talk going around about adblockers lately. I worked in the advertising technology and security industry for five years and the one core piece of advice I have is:
Holy fuck never give an advertiser your data. You cannot believe how bad it is. Don't. I run three layers of ad block protection and I'd run more if it was feasible. If you want to support creators give them money.
@QueerInTheCountry Doesn't matter if it does intimidate. It matters if it's intended to intimidate.
Posting a picture of a big dick on the internet would intimidate some people. Doesn't make it terrorism.
I just assumed it was because Wikipedia requires objectivity and Musk is objectively a jackass.
@Alice Okay, but here's the real question:
Do you know how to use the marquee tag?
@ThinkingSapien And if you don't have kids, then enjoy your early death from overwork!
It's worth noting that the INTENDED lifespans of Voyager 1 and 2 were FIVE years. They've now been operating about half a century, a full order of magnitude more than anticipated. Probably the best use of plutonium ever.
One interesting thing I've noticed from watching primetime court shows is that there's a common tell for which party is *morally* guilty in the case. Regardless of whether they win or lose, afterwards they will always utter those immortal words: "It is what it is."
That fascinates me, because of all it implies.

@GottaLaff if your kid has been going by a new name/pronouns and you're the last to know, it's because you're a shitty parent and your child doesn't feel safe around you. Periodt.
@tripu Ah, no, you just need to update it. Go to uBlockOrigin's settings, go to the filter lists. Click "purge all caches" followed by "update now". The popup should vanish.
For those who are just starting out in #ComputerScience / #Software / #SoftwareEngineering, just know: it gets easier.
Nobody gets coding at first. Some people can't get it at all. But most of us, with time and dedication, can wrap our minds around the idea of systems built upon systems built upon ones and zeroes.
Just wait. After time, with a bit of experience, you'll be able to do things that are like magic. The first time you see an error message pop up and know exactly what caused it before even reading it, you'll know what I mean.
@coreyspowell What is the benefit to a surface observatory over one in, say, the Earth/Moon L2 point?
