@chuls Yes. If everyone stops buying the products and services his companies sell, his net worth will crumble.

@chartier @timbray Right, but Occam's Razor here is that he's just stupid and he bought Twitter for his ego so he could be king of the castle and he's attacking wikipedia because they document how stupid he is.

Link via @psilocervine on Cohost: Some investigative journalism inside Unity's road to briefly introducing a company-destroying "install fees" policy last month.

The most interesting takeaway here is the whole disaster really was just IronSource, who merged with Unity last year, puppeting the company into destroying IronSource's competitor AppLovin at all costs. An entire art form is a pawn to be sacrificed in a fight between two adtech companies you've never heard of

In other news, 27 states have banded together to sue Dungeons & Dragons for promoting witchcraft, 35 states have banded together to sue "rock & roll" music for "promoting impure thoughts and glamorizing drug use", and Boston & Cleveland have banded together to sue "all sports" for "intentionally dividing the nation."

I can think of one big reason this guy shouldn't be hitting on singles

It's finally time to throw this out, as it hasn't stood the test of time, but I figured I'd take a picture for posterity since it was a pretty cool period in my life.

Florida interprets it ban on DEI initiatives as " apply[ing] to all campus programs and activities in which the college or university “endorses or promotes a position” on “topics that polarize or divide society among political, ideological, moral, or religious beliefs, positions, or norms.”" newrepublic.com/article/176402

It is hard to overstate how unconstitutional this is.

@freemo If you're open to contractors, I currently have 20 hours a week free. Almost two decades experience in game dev and over a decade in full-stack, mostly in .NET, but also some python, php, etc.

I genuinely do not understand how copper pennies are still a thing in 2023.

I don't need innocent Palestinian civilians to support LBGTQ rights in order for me to support their human rights anymore than I need American conservatives to support LGBTQ rights in order to support their human rights.

Human rights are not earned. All are entitled to them.

@bhawthorne @w7voa Oh, please. Literally anything will give you mental health issues if you don't have enough self-control to use it in moderation. Look at sports and how toxic people get over that. Nobody is trying to sue the NFL for mental anguish.

@w7voa Are they also suing Dungeons & Dragons and Rock & Roll music?

I hesitate to making declarative statements because I realize the world is complex and circumstances nuanced, but here I go.

If you plead guilty to or are convicted of using the system of justice to undermine democracy you should lose your license to practice law.

@yoginho @alexwild @eLife Maybe if he wrote it in the journal itself, you'd have a point. But having personal opinions on a personal social media account generally does not cause one's employer to look bad.

If anything, they're discovering now that the Streisand effect makes them look much, much worse.

I'm not an economist by any stretch, but if wages rise *with* inflation, then isn't inflation only bad for those with no wages?

Look, I get that marginalized communities are scared of the increase in far-right and outright fascist rhetoric, but enacting fascist laws to fight fascists is never going to be a good fucking idea.

The answer is not giving the government (which has fascists in it!) more power. The answer is and making sure that our arguments for inclusivity are more convincing than their arguments for hate.

@QueerInTheCountry FWIW, I marched in the BLM protests of 2020, so I very much understand the difference.

And, it doesn't really matter if you can't see the similarities between two movements that seek to advocate for the change of laws through public nonviolent demonstrations. Because your opponents will see that similarity and use it against you. For example:

My country has been through this before. We tried to enact hate speech laws. Know who got arrested? A man, in 1940, on the public sidewalk, who called organized religion a "racket".

That's the problem with passing subjective speech laws to stop fascists... Fascists *fucking love* to use those laws against marginalized communities.
